Voted the Dayton Flyer's Most Valuable Position Player...Tied the second best single season in UD history for with 231 At-Bats...Also tied the single season record for triples with 8 which he also previously held...Moved into fifth place in single season in times Hit by Pitch with 12...Also ranked among UD's best all-time in Games Played (218), At bats (842 new record), Runs (203 new record), Hits (268), Triples (20 new record), Hit by Pitch (30) and Stolen Bases (63 new record)...Lead the Flyers in stolen bases and attempts during his senior season going 16-21...Appeared and started 53 games for the Flyers...Had multiple hitting streaks of seven games or longer...Had 22 multi-hit games...Helped the Flyers with 48 runs and also drove in 27 runs in 53 games...Went 4-for-5 (.800) with a double against High Point...Later in the season went 5-for-7 (.714) with an RBI and another double against Butler...Ended his Dayton Flyer baseball career with a hit against Saint Louis.
2006
First Team A-10 All-Conference pick...Baseball America Preseason All-Conference Team...Started all 57 games as UD's leadoff batter and shortstop...Led the A-10 with eight triples which was the most in school history...Ranked second in stolen bases with 22 and runs scored with 59...He also smacked 13 doubles en route to a .513 slugging percentage and walked 31 times on his way to a .407 on base percentage...Reached base 52 of the 114 times (45.6 percent) he started an inning at the plate and scored 44 of those times...Had a 20-game hitting streak and led UD to wins in 14 of those games...Ledoff the game with a home run on the second pitch of the game in a 28-7 win at IPFW...Named the A-10 Player of the Week on April 10 following a four-game stretch that saw him hit .421 with two doubles, a triple, home run, 10 runs scored and nine RBI...He was also honored by the National College Baseball Foundation's National Honor Roll.
2005
Second Team A-10 All-Conference selection...Started all 59 games as UD's leadoff batter and shortstop...Led the team and ranked second in the A-10 with 19 stolen bases, 78 hits and 59 runs scored...Was third on the team in batting average and reached base 44 of the 103 times he started an inning at the plate and scored 31 of those times...Tied for the team lead with 26 multi-hit games and had 17 multi-run games as well as six multi-RBI performances...Hit the first pitch of the season for a line drive single up the middle as part of a 3-for-5 game with a double, three runs scored and two RBI...Went 3-for-4 with a double, home run, three runs scored and two RBI against Butler...Had a season-high three RBI as part of a 3-for-4 performance with two runs scored against Temple. Finished 2-for-2 with a double and three runs scored.
2004
Started 47 of 49 games played in his rookie season....Hit .308 for the fourth best mark on the team...Had 13 extra base hits for a .459 slugging percentage including seven doubles, three triples and three home runs...Tallied 19 RBI and scored 37 runs of his own...Had six stolen bases in 10 attempts...After playing off the bench against High Point and Bowling Green to begin his career, Massa started 47 of the next 48 games beginning with a Mar. 6 doubleheader at Western Kentucky...His first collegiate hit was a two-run homer on Mar. 12 against Michigan...He followed a day later with a 3-for-4 performance while scoring two runs in a 17-6 rout of Youngstown State...Also smacked three hits each against La Salle, Wittenberg and Toledo.
Prior to UD
Massa came to UD via St. Francis High School in Naperville, IL...There, he was a three-sport athlete, competing in golf and basketball as well as baseball...He was named the Player of the Year in golf and basketball his senior year, and was named an All Area performer for his efforts on the hardwood.
Personal
A finance major, Massa was born on July 20, 1985...He is the son of Jim and Cindy Massa...He has a sister, Michelle and a brother, Matt.
