Office of Academic Services for Student-Athletes

The Office of Academic Services for Student-Athletes (OASSA) is comprised of three academic coordinators and one learning specialist. To ensure academic integrity and engagement with on-campus partners, OASSA reports to the Office of the Associate Provost for Academic Affairs and Learning Initiatives as well as Athletics.

Academic coordinators work with specific athletic teams to provide academic support for all student-athletes. Coordinators work closely with coaches and faculty to ensure academic success through regular communication. They also monitor initial and continuing eligibility requirements according to NCAA, conference, and University of Dayton guidelines. In addition, coordinators serve as liaison between Athletics and on-campus academic units.

The learning specialist provides individualized academic and organizational support to student-athletes identified by OASSA staff. The learning specialist designs custom learning tools based on students' unique learning needs including areas such as time management, reading comprehension, writing and research skills, and study skills. Working with members of the Office of Learning Resources, the learning specialist coordinates peer tutoring and availability of other academic resources for the benefit of all student-athletes.
