FLYERS TAKE TO THE ROAD FOR A-10 BATTLES VS. LA SALLE AND FORDHAM

The University of Dayton softball squad will play in four crucial Atlantic 10 games in three days when it takes on La Salle on Friday, April 17 at 3 p.m. ET and Saturday, April 18 at 12 p.m. ET in Philadelphia and then plays a doubleheader at Fordham on Sunday, April 19 in the Bronx, NY at 12 p.m. ET. The Flyers are 4-6 in the A-10 and need a solid weekend to move up in the Conference standings to make a return trip to the Bronx for the A-10 Championship.
NACKE ATTACK IS BACK Lauren Nacke was named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week for the second consecutive week, when the Honor Roll was announced Monday, April 13. After being named the A-10 Co-Rookie of the Week on April 6, Nacke stepped up her game once again, and hit .571 in a Conference series against George Washington. The freshman from Greenwood, Ind. hit three home runs, including her second grand slam in as many weeks. Nacke had six of Dayton's nine RBI against the Colonials and had a monster slugging percentage of 1.857. Her grand slam in the second game against GW proved to be the game-winner, but she added another solo shot in her next at bat to tally 5 RBI in one game. Since hitting her first collegiate home run on March 31, 2009, Nacke now leads the Flyers with seven, including a league-high five in Conference-only games.
A-10TION - DAYTON IS IN THE MIX After playing 10 games of its 20-game Atlantic 10 schedule the Flyers are in eighth place in with a 4-6 mark. The top six teams advance to the 2009 Atlantic 10 Softball Championship held in the Bronx, NY on the Fordham campus from May 6-9.
IT'S SWEEPS WEEK The Flyer softball squad has posted two sweeps this season, and they were both during the week of March 30-April 5. Dayton recorded its first sweep since April 24, 2007 when it knocked off IPFW on March 31, 2009 winning 7-5 and 6-4. UD followed that with a 10-1 and 5-1 wins over St. Bonaventure in Atlantic 10 play on April 4. The last time UD swept an A-10 series was against George Washington on April 15, 2006 when the Flyers won 4-1 and 3-2.
MACI'S DAY PARADE Junior Anne Maci was key in the Flyers' 4-2 week from March 31-April 5. During that time she led UD with a .500 batting average. She scored seven runs with two doubles, and a home run. She is now second on the team batting at a .314 clip. Maci leads the squad with 20 RBI. She is hitting a team-high .400 with runners in scoring position.
LEE'S FABULOUS RECIPE FOR HITS Junior Megan Lee is leading the Flyers in Conference-only games with a .385 batting average. She has the most hits in A-10 games by a Dayton player. In 10 A-10 games, Lee has two doubles, a triple and home run for 7 RBI and 17 total bases. She went 4-for-6 (.667) against George Washington.
JORDAN JUST DOES IT Senior Katie Jordan leads the Flyers in on-base percentage at .425. It's no surprise then she leads the team in walks (16) and hit by pitches (11). She is also stealthy at advancing runners with a sacrifice bunt. She leads the team in sac bunts with 10. DAYTON (8-27, 4-6) Conference: Atlantic 10 Key Players: Junior Molly Meyer leads the Flyers with a .365 batting average. She also leads Dayton in slugging percentage (.557), doubles (10), triples (3), runs scored (32) and stolen bases (7). Freshman Lauren Nacke has tallied a team-high seven home runs. Junior Eva Rappe has struck out 62, three away from the 65 she posted last season. Key Stats: Dayton has turned 15 double plays compared to only seven for its opponents. The Flyers are 7-2 this season when they outhit their opponent.
SCOUTING LA SALLE (5-22, 4-8) Conference: Atlantic 10 Series: The Flyers lead the all-time series 19-11. Last season Dayton split with La Salle at UD Softball Stadium on April 6, 2008. UD won the first game 7-4, but fell 7-1 in the nightcap. Key Players: Junior Erica Vile leads the Explorers with a .302 batting average, three home runs and 7 RBI. Junior Gina Massaro (45) and sophomore DJ Guinn (44) have combined to strike out 89 batters. Massaro owns a 2.71 ERA. Key Stats: The Explorers are in ninth place in the A-10, right behind the Flyers. Four of their five wins this season have come in Conference play. La Salle has the worst fielding percentage in the A-10 at .926.
SCOUTING FORDHAM (28-16, 8-4) Conference: Atlantic 10 Series: The Flyers lead the all-time series 17-11. Last season Dayton split with Fordham at UD Softball Stadium on April 5, 2008. The Flyers were edged 10-9 in the first game, but bounced back with a 7-3 win in the second game. Key Players: Samantha Pellechi, the reigning A-10 Player of the Week, leads the Rams with a .382 batting average. She also has a team-high nine home runs and 36 RBI. Jocelyn Dearborn has cracked a team-high 11 doubles and six home runs. Freshman Jen Mineau boasts a 1.27 ERA, has thrown a perfect game this season, and has struck out 114. Key Stats: The Rams, currently in fourth place in the A-10, are 11-2 at home at Bahoshy Field this season. They have outscored opponents 210-148 this year.
