INDIANAPOLIS - The Dayton softball team was swept at Butler Thursday in non-conference action. The Bulldogs topped UD 3-2 in nine innings in game one, and took the series with a 7-3 win in game two. Mollie Schrank was three-for-five on the day with two runs scored and an RBI.

UD falls to 10-21 on the season and remains 4-6 in the Atlantic 10.

Schrank beat out an infield hit to lead off the third inning of game one, stole second and came into score on a single by Shalyn Adams.

In the fifth, Butler took a 2-1 lead on a walk and a single, plus a two-run double from Annie Dolan.

The Flyers rallied to tie the game in the top of the seventh. Pinch hitter Laura Matthews singled to open the inning, Malchow re-entered as the runner and was sacrificed to second. After a ground out to the right side moved her to third, Adams singled home Malchow again to knot things up at 2-2.

With one out in the bottom of the ninth, however, Jill Meihold doubled down the left field line and then Macy McMullen hit the ball down the right field line to plate the game-winning run.

Adams was two-for-five with a pair of RBI in game one, while Blair Crabtree added a two-for-four performance. Schrank was two-for-three in game one with a run scored.

Melissa Myher took the hard-luck loss, dropping to 4-11 on the season. She struck out seven in 8.1 innings, scattering eight hits.

Meghan Howard picked up the win for Butler in relief, improving to 7-5, with two innings of one-hit ball.

Ellie Malchow was two-for-three in game two, with a pair of runs scored.

In game two, Butler jumped out to a five-run lead after two innings. Jamie Wonderly hit a two-run single in the first, and a three-run home run by Alex Boros in the second made it 5-0 and chase UD starter Erin Lafayette.

In the third inning, Malchow singled, and after walks to Schrank and Adams, Roudebush drew a walk for the first UD run. Tamsyn Kellough added a sacrifice fly to cut the margin to 5-2.

But Butler picked up a run back in the third on three hits.

Dayton responded in the fourth as Malchow doubled to left field and scored on a single by Schrank.

The Bulldogs capped the scoring in the fourth on an RBI double by Amy Hyerczyk.

LaFayette gave up five hits in 1.2 innings. Chelsea Grozenski allowed two earned runs in 4.1 innings pitched with four strikeouts.

Wonderly picked up the win for Butler in relief, pitching the final 4.2 innings.

The Flyers are off to George Washington for an Atlantic 10 doubleheader on Saturday in Washington, DC, at noon, before a road trip to Ball State on Monday at 2 p.m.
