March 20, 2005
In the second game of Sunday's doubleheader, the University of Dayton softball team fell to Middle Tennessee State 3-2. The Flyers move to 4-5 on the season. The Blue Raiders were on the board first but Dayton came back in the third inning as Shannon St. Clair, who was 1-for-3, doubled to centerfield. Following that was a single by Cassie Gross. With two runners on Laura Matthews singled to load the basses. Matthews was 1-for-2 with a run scored. Tamsyn Kellough and Tami Roudebush both worked the count to get on base with a walk, which brought Matthews and St. Clair around to put the Flyers up 2-1. It wasn't until the fifth and sixth innings that Middle Tennessee State was able to tie the game at two. The Blue Raiders accumulated three doubles as they went up 3-2. Centerfielder Cassie Gross threw out a Raider who tried to score as a short ground ball was hit to center. Dayton was unable to catch up in the last inning as all three batters were out in order.
