FLYER WOMEN'S SOCCER FACES TOUGHEST A-10 TEST YET

The University of Dayton women's soccer team will face the two extremes of the Atlantic 10 conference this weekend when they face off with high-scoring Charlotte this Friday, Oct. 24 at 7 p.m. ET at Transamerica Field and then head to St. Louis to take on the defensive-minded Billikens Sunday, Oct. 26 at 2 p.m. ET at Hermann Field. The 49ers lead the A-10 in scoring, putting away 53 goals, while Saint Louis leads the conference on the other spectrum, only allowing 12 goals this season. The Flyers are ranked right behind them in each category.

SERIES INFORMATION
Dayton has struggled against these two teams in the past and has a combined record of 1-5-1.
• UD has never beaten Charlotte in their three meetings. The last time they played, the 49ers edged the Flyers 2-1 at Baujan Field on Oct. 21, 2007. Junior Mandi Bäck scored the lone goal for the Flyers.
• The Flyers are 1-2-1 against Saint Louis and won the last meeting 2-1 in overtime on Nov. 8, 2007 in the A-10 Tournament. Caitlin Proffitt scored the game-winner in overtime.

FLYER NOTES
• Dayton is 11-4-1 overall and 5-1-1 in A-10 heading into the weekend. They are in second place in the conference standings with 16 points, behind Charlotte's 21. Saint Louis is fourth with 13 points.
• The Flyers continue to lead the Atlantic 10 in shots (283). UD has outshot opponents by more than 100 (283 to 170). Dayton is second in the conference for points (89), goals scored (31), goals per game (1.94), assists (tied, 27), and assists per game (tied, 1.69).
• Dayton is also getting it done on defense. The Flyers are third in the A-10 for goals against average (0.90) and goals allowed (15).
• Junior Mandi Bäck is second in the A-10 in shots, firing off 51 for 3.19 shots per game. She leads UD with six goals (tied for eighth in the A-10), and 12 points (tied for ninth). Sophomore Jerica DeWolfe is eighth in the A-10 in shots with 42.
• Junior Colleen Gibson is ranked third the A-10 in assists and assists per game. She has seven on the season for 0.58 per game, which ranks her 22nd in the NCAA for assists per game.
• Seven different players have scored game-winning goals for the Flyers, including senior Amanda Gallow who is tied for second in the A-10 with three game-winning scores.
• Thirteen different players have scored goals for the Flyers this season and seven different players have scored multiple goals. Eleven players have dished out assists, with six players having multiple assists.
• The UD defense is allowing 0.94 goals per game, which ranks them third in the A-10. Dayton is the only team to have two goalkeepers in the A-10's Top 10 for goals against average and save percentage. Senior Deana Waintraub is third in the A-10 and boasts a 0.82 GAA, while sophomore Lisa Rodgers is seventh at 1.06 GAA. Rodgers is eighth in the conference with a .786 save percentage and Waintraub is ninth with a .775 save percentage.
Deana Waintraub is ranked 62nd in the NCAA for goals against average (.82). The Flyers are 9-1-1 when she is in goal this season.
• UD boasts the best home attendance average of any Atlantic 10 school. Dayton is averaging 667 fans a game at Baujan Field. The next closest is Charlotte with 583 fans per home game. UD's game against Indiana (Aug. 22) drew 1,213 fans, the seventh best all-time attendance mark in Dayton women's soccer history.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
CHARLOTTE
• The 49ers are 11-3-1 and undefeated in the Atlantic 10 with their 7-0-0 mark. Charlotte, the only unbeaten team in the conference, is outscoring its opponents 53-20; including allowing only six goals in the first half.
• Charlotte is 7-0-0 at their home field - Transamerica Field - this season.
• The 49ers have a big-time one-two punch in junior midfielder Hailey Beam and sophomore forward Whitney Weinraub. Between the two of them, they have won five A-10 Player of the Week honors. Beam has been named Atlantic 10 Player of the Week three times this season, including Co-Player of the Week, along with Dayton's Lauren MacCormick, for Oct. 20. Beam is sixth in the nation in points per game (2.47) and leads the Atlantic 10 in goals (13), assists (11) and points (37). Weinraub has been player of the week twice. She has 11 goals and nine assists and is 11th in NCAA points per game (2.07).
• The 49ers are second in the NCAA for scoring offense with 3.53 goals per game.
• All three of Charlotte's losses are to ACC opponents: No. 2 North Carolina (5-1), No. 16 Wake Forest (3-0) and Virginia Tech (5-1). They are now on an eight-game winning streak.
• Charlotte's defense has posted eight shutouts this season. Junior goalkeeper Lauren Brown owns a 1.13 GAA and has 44 saves.
• Jon Lipsitz is in his fourth season as head coach of the 49ers. He owns a 51-22-4 record at Charlotte.

SAINT LOUIS
• The Billikens are 8-3-4 overall, 4-2-1 in Atlantic 10 play and currently on a four-game unbeaten streak.
• Junior forwards Julia Bradenburg and Kelly Waeckerle have each scored four goals to lead the SLU attack. Junior midfielder Kristen Sapienza leads the Billikens with three assists.
• Saint Louis has only lost one game at home and is 3-1-3 at Hermann Stadium this season.
• The Billikens have posted eight shutouts this season, including three consecutive shutouts going into this weekend of action. Hannah Perry leads the A-10 with a .76 GAA, to go along with 60 saves.
• Saint Louis leads the Atlantic 10 in goals against average (.76), goals allowed (tied with 12) and shutouts (tied with 8).
• Tim Champion is in his 13th season as head coach at Saint Louis. He has an all-time record of 156-76-26 at SLU.

LOOKING AHEAD
The Flyers close out the regular season at home in two Atlantic 10 matches when they take on Fordham on Halloween night, Oct. 31 at 7:30 p.m. and La Salle on Sunday, Nov. 2 at 1 p.m. at Baujan Field.

LAST WEEK RECAP
Dayton outscored its opponents 8-1 on the weekend with resounding wins against St. Bonaventure (4-0) and Duquesne (4-1).

MACKIN' MACCORMICK
University of Dayton's Lauren MacCormick was named to the Atlantic 10 Fall Sports Honor Roll for Oct. 20. She was named the A-10 Women's Soccer Co-Player of the Week. She played a huge role in the Flyers' back-to-back four-goal games. MacCormick tallied her first goal of the season in Dayton's 4-0 victory over St. Bonaventure on Oct. 17 and scored twice, including the game-winner, on Oct. 19 as the Flyers earned a 4-1 win versus Duquesne.

TERRIFIC TUCKER
Head Coach Mike Tucker's Flyer squads are 108-21-8 in A-10 play. He is the only active coach in the A-10 to achieve more than 100 women's soccer A-10 wins. UD has won seven of the 13 conference regular season titles. In addition, his teams have won the A-10 Tournament Championship five times (1996, 1999, 2001, 2003, 2004).
