Delaware, OH - UD men's cross country enjoyed its best finish ever at the 2008 All-Ohio Championships on Saturday as redshirt junior Mike Andersen crossed the line second overall in a time of 25:33. Sophomore Chris Lemon followed in third position, and the Flyers placed seventh out of 42 competing teams. UD recorded a team score of 268 at the meet, which was held at Ohio Wesleyan University.

Two NAIA programs fetched team titles at the event, with Malone College winning the men's event for a second straight year. Cedarville University came out on top of the women's race. Malone senior Nik Schweikert edged UD's Andersen for the men's individual title with a time of 25:18, while Lilian Jelimo of the University of Cincinnati ran a 17:45 to win the women's crown.

Andersen paced the men's squad for the second time in 2008 and ran his third best time of the season en route to his highest individual finish of the year.

Nine seconds later, Lemon crossed the line to take third in 25:42 while his brother, Matt, followed in 11th position and registered 25:55 on the clock for the Flyers.

Nearly two minutes separated the Flyers' third and fourth runners, as senior Tim Kaelin and sophomore Ryan Shirley represented the final point earners for UD. Both scored for the first time this season, Kaelin in 27:54 (112th overall) and Shirley in 28:17 (140th overall).

Running defensively for the Flyers were seniors Michael Peters (28:35, 153rd) and Tom Middleton (29:36 202nd).

On the women's side it was Maureen Bulgrin heading the pack for the fourth straight meet. The sophomore completed the course in 18:35 to take tenth place.

For the fourth straight time, Bulgrin's classmate, Liz Coorey, followed her across the line. Coorey took 24th overall with a time of 19:01.

Running in third position for UD was another sophomore, Brigitte Sherman, who took 31st in 19:11.

Senior Ellen Nienhaus (19:30.5) and Elissa Mason (19:30.9) took fourth and fifth for Dayton, respectively. The senior and the freshman were nipping at each other's heels for the second straight race as Nienhaus edged Mason to take 43rd overall.

Alex Miles (86, 20:01) and Lindsey Cummings (87, 20:03) ran in defense for Dayton.

After a week off, both teams will compete together again at the NCAA Pre-Nationals next Saturday in Terra Haute, Ind.
