MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY EXCELS AT LIBERTY COLLEGIATE INVITATIONAL

LYNCHBURG, Va. - The University of Dayton men's cross country team continued its outdoor track season on Saturday with a successful showing at the Liberty Collegiate Invitational, which was held at the Matthes-Hopkins Track Complex on the campus of Liberty University. Two Flyers, Mike Andersen and Matt Lemon, took top spots at the meet. Andersen, a redshirt junior, brought home first in the 1,500 meter event with his time of 3:53.96. Sophomore Chris Lemon also placed third in the race (4:07.20) and senior Michael Peters set a personal best of 4:16.13 to nab ninth overall. Matt Lemon was the first-place finisher in the 5,000 meter run, beating out five teammates and 22 other competitors with his time of 14:35.98. Chris Lemon also placed third in the 5,000 with a result of 15:09.38. Freshman Greg Roeth and sophomore Ryan Shirley were in the top-ten for the Flyers too. Roeth ran at a clip of 15:36.41 to finish fifth, while Shirley secured sixth with his time of 15:45.13. In a third event, Cory McGoldrick finished fifth in the 3,000 meter steeplechase (10:06.72). After a two-week break, the Flyers will be back on the track at the two-day All-Ohio Outdoor Championships on Apr. 17 & 18. The meet will take place on the campus of Miami University in Oxford, Oh. and will be an all-day affair. |
