MADISON, Wisc. - Milwaukee-Wisconsin (1-1-1) snuck a goal in with 39 seconds left in regulation to deal the University of Dayton men's soccer team its first loss of the season, 1-0, in the first game of Wisconsin's Middleton Sports & Fitness Invitational.

"We weren't overly sharp tonight. We need to find ways to get motivated on the road," said UD head coach Dennis Currier. "We produced good pressure but weren't good at finishing our chances. We were one step off of everything tonight and we just couldn't produce."

The two squads battled for nearly two periods with no score when Milwaukee freshman Eric Frazier scored his first collegiate goal at the 89:21 mark on an assist from Nick Dundon.

"We were pressing really hard to score and they got a lane in transition," said Currier.

Junior Jeff Popella gave the Flyers their best chance of the game in the 38th minute on a header but Panthers senior goalkeeper Grant Fernstrum made a diving save.

"Jeff did well with his work rate. He got behind the defense a couple times," said Currier. "We just have to find a way to be more clinical and finish with our attacking six."

Popella led the UD attack, racking up five shots, while junior Alex Torda had four attempts at the frame.

Junior Alex Davis was impressive for the Flyers, tallying six saves in goal. In the 87th minute he made a spectacular save to give Dayton a chance in regulation.

"Our defense was steady and Alex made a big save to keep us in the game," said Currier. "He had a solid game and kept us in it."

Dayton (2-1) plays the host Badgers this Sunday, Sept. 7 at 3:30 p.m. in the final game of the Middleton Sports & Fitness Invitational.
