CHAPPELL'S 64 PACES FLYERS AFTER ROUND ONE OF THE A-10 CHAMPIONSHIP
May 2, 2008
WINTER GARDEN, Fla. - Behind a career-best round of 64 by junior Rob Chappell, the Dayton Flyers are in second place after round one of the 2008 Atlantic 10 Men's Golf Championship. UD is just one stroke back of first place after completing round one with a total of 279. The Rhode Island Rams and the nationally-ranked Charlotte 49ers are just ahead of the Flyers after 18-holes of play. Chappell was eight under par shooting a 33 on the front nine and a 31 on the back. Chappell, who is in first overall among individual golfers, shattered his previous best of 68 during his freshman season thanks in part to nine birdies on the day. But Chappell wasn't the only Flyer to start off strong in round one. Tied for sixth among individuals was freshman Chris Woeste who fired a two-under par 70. After shooting an even-par 36 on the first nine holes, Woeste got into a groove and added three birdies to help him shoot two under in the back nine. Freshman Zach Glassman extended his streak of rounds below an 80 to 13 after firing a one-under 71 on the day. After he had three bogeys on the first five holes, Glassman settled down and added four birdies in final 10. Freshman Jeff Hodapp had the only eagle of the afternoon and completed the first round two-over par with a 74. After a bogey on his first hole, Hodapp connected for an eagle soon after. Freshman Ian Gilley rounded out the scoring with a first round tally of 80. UD returns to action in round two starting on Saturday at 8 a.m. ET from the Orange County National Golf Course in Winter Garden, Fla. |
