    AT DAYTON:
    Castaneda made his mark as a freshman in 2007, earning PFL Honor as Rookie of the Year and UD's ROTC Cannonball Award. He led Dayton with eight pass break ups, and tied for team honors in interceptions (3, all in conference play). He was in on 51 tackles (27 solo). He was also UD's top kick returner, averaging 11.8 yards a punt return and 24.1 yards a kick return.

    In the 2008 season, Castaneda saw action in nine games, starting in seven of his appearances. He recorded seven punt returns, averaging eight yards per return and ranked third on the team overall. He was second for the Flyers in kick returns, with six this season (averaging 23.5 yards). Castaneda also tallied one interception and 30 tackles.

    Joe was selected First Team All-Northern Kentucky and Second Team All-Kentucky. He was selected to participate in the Kentucky All-Star game vs. Tennessee. He was also a sprinter on the track team.
