CLARKSVILLE, TN - Cole Tyrell hit a two-out RBI single in the top of the ninth inning as Dayton extended its winning streak to five straight with a 5-4 victory over Bradley Monday in the opener of the 2008 Governors Classic hosted by Austin Peay State University. The Flyers will return to action this evening against host Austin Peay at 6 p.m. ET.

Tyrell led a group of five Flyers to record multi-hit performances as UD returned to the court after three days of postponed games due to poor weather in both Tennessee and Ohio. The sophomore was 3-for-5 with a run scored and two RBI.

Jacob Speath led all players with four hits on the day to finish 4-for-5 with a stolen base and a RBI followed by a 2-for-3 day by Ryan Nevill with a double and three runs scored while being hit by pitch twice.

Scott Dunwoody and Jimmy Roesinger each finished 2-for-5 with Dunwoody picking up an RBI while Roesinger scored a run of his own.

Senior Alex Dye had a strong start on the mound before giving up three runs on seven hits over 4.0 innings pitched. He struck out one and walked another before giving way to classmate Lucas Farden to start the fifth inning.

Farden fanned four and surrendered just one run on two hits over 4.0 innings pitched to left his record to 2-1 on the season from the bullpen.

Freshman Burny Mitchem allowed just a two-out single in the ninth to earn his first collegiate save while also striking out one in a closing role.

The Flyers started their scoring in the second inning as the first two batters reached base after Myles Swartzel walked and Ryan Nevill was hit by pitch. Cole Tyrell followed with a single to load the bases with no outs, but Swartzel was retired on the next play on a ground ball back to the pitcher. Kevin Miller lifted a sacrifice fly to centerfield that allowed Nevill to score from third. Jacob Speath and Scott Dunwoody added RBI singles to left field and through the middle of the Braves defense to make it a 3-0 Flyer lead after one and a half innings of play.

Dayton added to its lead in the third beginning with a one-out double to left field by Ryan Nevill. Nevill then stole third and came home on a Cole Tyrell single to right field for a 4-0 UD advantage.

Bradley finally got on the board with three runs on five hits in the fourth inning and finally evened the score on an RBI single in the fifth for a 4-4 tie at the midpoint of the contest.

After UD had a runner thrown out at the plate in the top of the eighth inning, the Flyers began a rally in the top of the ninth inning when Max Navalinski was hit by a pitch. Ryan Nevill singled to left field and push Navalinski to second base. The pair then each stole a base to advance into scoring position at second and third respectively. After Navalinski was retired trying to score on the play for UD's second out of the inning, Cole Tyrell hit a RBI infield single to third base to give the Flyers the lead back in their final at bat.

Burny Mitchem then came out of the bullpen to record a strikeout and groundout before Bradley would remain alive with a two-out single. However the Flyer freshman would get the Braves to pop up and close out a 5-4 Dayton victory.
