Dayton Flyers

The University of Dayton men's golf team held its annual awards banquet celebrating another strong year.

Junior Sean Keating earned the team's Most Valuable Player award. Keating qualified for the U.S. Amateur in August and was named the Atlantic 10's Player of the Week twice during the 2011-12 campaign.

Keating finished the season tied for the team lead in rounds played (26) and ranked second on the team in stroke average (74.6). He had 24 of his 26 rounds played were shot in the 70s or lower.

The Coaches Award went to senior Michael Oberschmidt. Known as a tireless worker on-and-off the course, Oberschmidt led the Flyers in stroke average (74.3) and played in 23 rounds. He was also UD's most consistent player with 22 of his 23 rounds played were shot in the 70s.

Head coach Gip Hoagland also named his captains for next season with Keating and Matt Buse holding that honor. Buse finished third individually and earn Atlantic 10 All-conference honors. He became the fifth Flyer to be named to the 10-player All-A-10 team, joining Keating (2010), Rob Chappell (’09 and ’08), Chris Woeste (’08) and Matt Pagnotto (’00).

Dayton will return 11 golfers from the 2011-12 season.
