DAYTON RAKES IN A-10 WOMEN'S BASKETBALL HONORS

Complete A-10 Release

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. –
Four University of Dayton players were honored when the Atlantic 10 released its 2012 Women’s Basketball All-Conference teams Wednesday, Feb. 29. Seniors Justine Raterman and Elle Queen, and freshmen Andrea Hoover and Ally Malott all picked up individual honors.

Raterman was named an A-10 First Team selection for the second consecutive season, as well as an All-Academic Team honoree. The Dayton co-captain is the first Flyer to earn First Team honors in consecutive seasons. Raterman, a forward from Versailles, Ohio, leads the Flyers in scoring with 14.7 ppg (3rd in the Atlantic 10) and rebounding with 6.3 rpg. The three-time A-10 All-Championship Team selection has led Dayton in scoring in each of her three seasons and currently has 1,780; since UD transitioned to D-I women’s basketball in 1984-85, Raterman is Dayton’s modern-era all-time leading scorer. She was the 2008-09 A-10 Rookie of the Year.

Senior Elle Queen was voted to the A-10 All-Defensive Team. The co-captain from Excelsior, Minn. leads UD in steals with 49. Her 2.6 steals per game in A-10 games is third-best in the conference.

Freshman Andrea Hoover was named the 2012 A-10 Rookie of the Year, as well as being chosen as a Third Team A-10 selection. She was a four-time Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week. She is second for the Flyers in scoring (10.3 ppg), rebounds (5.2 rpg), three-point field goals made (33) and minutes played (26.8 mpg).

Hoover, a guard from Bellbrook, Ohio, and Ally Malott were both named to the All-Rookie Team. The Flyers were the only team with two rookies honored. Malott, a forward from Middletown, Ohio, is averaging 6.5 ppg.

The 20-6 Flyers will vie for the program’s first-ever Atlantic 10 Women’s Basketball Championship and the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament this weekend in Philadelphia. Dayton, the #3 seed, has a first round bye and will face off with either #6 seed Charlotte or #11 seed Saint Louis in the quarterfinals on Saturday, March 3 at 7:30 p.m. at Hagan Arena on the campus of Saint Joseph’s.
