DAYTON PASSES A-10 TEST WITH 65-51 ROAD WIN AT SJU

The University of Dayton improved to 10-4 and 2-0 in Atlantic 10 action with a 65-51 win over Saint Joseph’s Tuesday morning at Hagan Arena in front of 2,451 fans who were part of the “Fieldtrip to the Fieldhouse” promotion for area youth. It was the Flyers’ first road win and the Hawks' first home loss of the 2011-12 season.

SJU, who has a 38 RPI, dropped to 10-5 overall and 1-1 in the A-10.

All 10 Flyers who got in the game scored and freshman Andrea Hoover led the way with career highs in points (18), rebounds (8), steals (4) and field goals made (7). 

Senior Justine Raterman and sophomore Cassie Sant each added nine points for the Dayton cause. Senior Casey Nance had a season-high 10 rebounds and senior Elle Queen had a career-high five steals.
 
Dayton had a dominating defensive performance in the first half and held a 20-point lead at the intermission, 38-18.

UD held the Hawks to 0-for-8 from the field in the first seven minutes of the game and SJU didn’t hit its first field goal with 12:54 to play in the half. Dayton took advantage and used an 11-0 run from 17:00 to 13:02 to go up 15-2. Hoover scored seven of those points in that run.

The Hawks never got within double digits the rest of the game. They closed the gap to 27-16 with 6:32 left in the half, by UD used another run – this one 11-2 – to close out the half.

The Flyers held their largest lead of the game, 45-23, after Raterman drained a three with 15:08 to play.

UD outrebounded SJU 44-34 and Dayton had 36 points in the paint compared to 22 for the Hawks. UD forced 27 SJU turnovers, the second most this season.

The Hawks who lead the A-10 in three-point field goal percentage (.384 before today’s game) shot 0-of-4 from beyond the arc.

The Flyers return to UD Arena on Sunday, Jan. 15 for their ESPN2 nationally-televised game against Temple at 2 p.m. “Pack the House with a Red Out!” All fans wearing red will receive a special discounted ticket price - $3 for adults and $1 for children.
