DAYTON WOMEN'S BASKETBALL TOPS NKU 88-34

DAYTON, Ohio -
The University of Dayton women’s basketball team defeated the Northern Kentucky Norse, 88-34, on Tuesday evening at UD Arena.

UD led the entire game against NKU. Their largest lead came at the end of regulation as the Flyers won by 54 points. Senior Casey Nance led the team in rebounds with eight, while senior De’Sarae Chambers had a team-high 16 points.

Freshman Ally Mallot saw the most time on the court with 23 minutes. Mallot had six rebounds, five of which were defensive, and contributed four points to the team’s effort. The Flyers shot 85.7 percent at the line and ended with a 52.3 field goal percentage.

The Flyers forced  NKU into 27 turnovers and scored 41 points on the Norse miscues. The Flyers’ defense was sharp and consistent throughout the night. They managed 16 steals, while NKU only tallied five.

Dayton opened up play with seven unanswered points in the first two minutes. The Flyers maintained a steady lead throughout the half and went to the locker room up 38-14, and UD shot 17-of-30 from the field. Senior Patrice Lalor led the team in scoring at the half with 13 points and went 3-of-4 from beyond the arc. Junior Olivia Applewhite had a team-high four rebounds in the half.  At the end of the first, the Flyers had tallied 10 steals and led the Norse 38-14.

Midway through the second half the Flyers extended their lead to 59-22. Dayton took advantage of NKU’s 20 total turnovers and 23.1 field goal percentage. With seven minutes left in regulation, Dayton scored 29 secon- half points, over three times the amount of NKU’s nine. 

This season the Flyers return four starters from the team that advanced to the finals of the Atlantic 10 championship for the first time in program history. Also, in the Atlantic 10 preseason poll, UD was picked as co-favorites with Temple.

Next Friday, Nov. 11 the Flyers will open up the regular season as they play host to Bowling Green at UD Arena. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.
