BUTLER SPRING INVITE UP NEXT FOR UD WOMEN'S GOLF

After a three-week layoff, the Dayton Flyers women’s golf team begins the bulk of their spring schedule as UD will compete in the 2011 Butler Spring Invitational.

Although the Flyers haven’t competed in a tournament in three weeks, Dayton does have some momentum. Junior Clara Ang’s 78 helped Flyers women’s golf team earn a dual meet victory over The Citadel Bulldogs. Dayton as a team defeated the Bulldogs 330 to 342 to open the spring campaign.

That success helped Ang win the Colonial Athletic Association Women’s Golfer of the Week on March 10, 2011. She currently leads Dayton with a 77.7 stroke average and 10 rounds of play this season.

This will be the third consecutive season the Flyers will participate in the Butler Spring Invitational. Last season the Flyers enjoyed tremendous success earning a second place team finish.

During the 2010-11 campaign, the Flyers as a team average 320.92 strokes per round.

The two-day, 36-hole event will take place at the Prestwick Country Club in Avon, Ind. Tournament play begins Monday, March 28 and concludes Tuesday, March 29.

Founded in 1974, Prestwick Country Club has tested many of Indiana’s top professional and amateur golfers. Prestwick enjoys a rich tournament history including the Indiana Men’s State Open, Indiana Women’s State Open, Indianapolis Open, Indiana State Amateur, Indiana Match Play Championship, and the Boy’s and Girl’s IHSAA State Championships.

This will be the second of five spring tournaments for UD.
