Atlantic 10 Release

Newport News, Va. – A trio of Dayton Flyers earned All-Atlantic 10 honors today as Chris Wright was named to the Third Team All-Atlantic 10, Chris Johnson was an Honorable Mention selection and Juwan Staten was named to the All-Rookie Team.

Wright is only the third UD player to be named All-Atlantic 10 three times, joining Brian Roberts and Ryan Perryman.   The 6-8 senior forward from Trotwood, Ohio leads Dayton in scoring (13.0), rebounding (8.3), blocked shots (44) and steals (27). 

After being selected to the All-Rookie Team as a freshman, and earning the Chris Daniels Memorial Most Improved Player Award last year, Johnson was named Honorable Mention All-Atlantic 10 this season.  The 6-6 junior forward from Columbus, Ohio leads UD in minutes played (29.6), and is second in scoring (11.8), and rebounding (5.9).

Staten is Dayton’s seventh All-Rookie selection (Chris Johnson, Chris Wright, Brian Roberts, Keith Waleskowski, Brooks Hall, Tony Stanley). Three- time Atlantic-10 Rookie of the Week, Staten leads UD and the Atlantic-10 in assists (5.6). He has 168 on the season and holds the school record in assists by a freshman. Staten currently sits as number 25 in the NCAA for assists this season, and his 5.6 assist-per-game average leads all freshmen in Division I.

The Flyers will travel to play UMass in the First Round of the Atlantic 10 Championship on Tuesday, March 8. Tip-off is scheduled for 9 p.m. ET.
