Boxscore

CHARLOTTE, N.C. –
The University of Dayton women’s basketball team fell 73-52 to Charlotte Saturday night at Halton Arena in an Atlantic 10 matchup. The Flyers (16-9, 7-4 A-10), ranked first in the conference in points per game, were held to their lowest scoring total of the season. The 21-point margin of defeat by the 49ers (20-5, 8-2 A-10) is the largest this season the Flyers have suffered.

UD shot just 29 percent (20-of-69) from the field and turned the ball over 18 times.

Senior Kristin Daugherty led the Flyers with 14 points and Kari Daugherty added 12 points. Justine Raterman led UD in rebounding with eight boards to help the Flyers win the battle of the boards 44-41 over the 49ers.

Dayton was down 41-29 after the first 20 minutes of action and never gained momentum. Charlotte’s full court pressure defense forced 11 turnovers in the first half and capitalized, outscoring UD 13-0 on points off turnovers. Dayton was perfect from the free throw line in the first half, knocking down 3-of-3, but Charlotte sank 13-of-14 for a decisive advantage.

Patrice Lalor gave the Flyers their only lead of the first half on a trey that put UD up 5-2 at the 16:47 mark. Two Dayton turnovers led to quick scores for Charlotte who went up 6-5 on a Kendria Holmes steal and layup at 15:56. The 49ers then went on a 9-2 run to build a 17-7 lead and Paige McCallum gave Charlotte a 13-point lead, 39-26, its biggest lead of the half after an offensive rebound and putback with 1:23 left in the half. Kristin Daugherty converted an old-fashioned three-point play to cut the lead to 10, but Shannon McCallum hit the last field goal of the half with 54 seconds to go for the halftime score of 41-29.

Shannon McCallum gave the 49ers their largest lead of the game, 67-44 with 6:21 left to play in the game.

Epiphany Woodson led the 49ers with 22 points and Kendria Holmes added 16 points. Jennifer Hailey had a game-high 14 rebounds.

The Flyers continue their three-game Atlantic 10 road swing when they travel to Philadelphia to take on Temple next Saturday, Feb. 19. The game will be aired on national television on CBS College Sports at 5 p.m. ET.
