WILLIAMS NAMED A-10 PLAYER OF THE WEEK FOR THIRD TIME THIS SEASON

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – University of Dayton sophomore Colleen Williams earned her third women’s soccer Atlantic 10 Player of the Week Award on Oct. 4. She was also named to TopDrawerSoccer’s National Team of the Week.
Williams scored three goals in leading Dayton to victories over Fordham and La Salle to open play in the A-10.  On Friday, the midfielder was one of four goal scorers, finding the back of the net in the 35th minute, in a 4-0 win over the Rams.  She followed that performance by tallying both goals in the Flyers’ 2-0 shutout against the Explorers.  Williams scored both goals in a span of four minutes and 20 seconds in the first half to give Dayton all the scoring they would need on Sunday. With the two wins over the weekend, the Dayton women’s soccer program reached a milestone of 350 wins.
Williams is ranked No. 1 in the Atlantic 10 by TopDrawerSoccer.com and is also No. 48 on the same website’s Upperclass Women Top 100 Ranking. She leads the Atlantic 10 in points (27), goals (11) and game-winning goals (5).

In addition, she has started Willy’s Wish - Dollars for Dayton. She is asking for Flyer fans to donate just $1 to help a Dayton family in need. Collection boxes will be located at each entrance at Baujan Field for UD’s final two home games of the season (Oct. 8 & 10).
“It may seem like a small contribution from your pocket, but put together with several others willing to help someone in need, this will change this family’s life,” said Williams.
The Flyers, at 10-2-0 overall, come in at No. 22 in the TopDrawerSoccer Women’s Tournament 64 Ranking. UD is also No. 2 in the NSCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Poll.
Dayton, currently on a seven-game unbeaten streak, leads the A-10 in shots (208), assists (24), goals allowed (6), goals against average (.49), shutouts (7) and corner kicks (70).
The Flyers host Rhode Island this Friday, Oct. 8 at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free to all UD regular season games at Baujan Field.
