DAYTON, Ohio – The University of Dayton Flyers will open a three-game series against the Canisius Griffins at 3:00 p.m. ET on Friday at Time Warner Cable Stadium.
The Flyers were slated to play four games this weekend, with a doubleheader on Saturday, but due to scheduling conflicts the series is once again back to three games.
Dayton won its last game against the Butler Bulldogs 3-1. The Flyers regrouped from their error-prone game against Oakland to play mistake-free baseball against Butler. Eric Wagner earned his first win of the season in two innings of action, and freshman Trent Haughn earned his first collegiate save striking out all three batters in the ninth inning. The Flyers are 6-9 this season and 2-1 at Time Warner Cable Stadium.
Canisius is 10-5 this season and has won three of its last four games, beating Toledo twice and splitting with Winthrop. Ian Choy and Jarred Flock are both hitting .333 this season. Choy has six doubles and six RBI, while Flock has Flock has brought nine across the plate.
Right-handed pitcher Burny Mitchem (1-4) gets the nod on Friday after a strong performance against Indiana State for his first win of the season. Mitchem averages 6.5 strikeouts to walks, with 26 punchouts and four walks. Against Indiana State, Mitchem had six strikeouts while allowing two walks.
Mitchem will battle LHP Shane Davis. He is 2-1 in four starts this season with a 3.75 ERA. Davis has struck out 17 while giving allowing 12 free bases. He has seen 24.0 innings of action.
Right-handed pitcher Mike Hauschild makes his second start of the season this weekend. Hauschild threw 3.0 innings against Oakland, allowing one earned run.
Hauschild will go against right-hander Billy Martin on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. ET. In four starts this season, Martin carries a 1-2 record with a 6.23 ERA. He has 19 strikeouts this season.
Left-handed pitcher Cameron Hobson earns the Sunday start for UD. The sophomore from Crawfordsville, Ind. Hobson pitched 3.0 innings allowing one earned run in a 6-5 loss to Oakland on Sunday. He is 0-1 in four starts this season with seven strikeouts. First pitch is slated for Noon on Sunday.
The Griffins will throw southpaw Mike Goemans against Hobson. Carrying a 6.04 ERA, Goemans is 1-1 this season with six strikeouts. He has also made four starts this season.
