DAYTON DOWNS WAKE FOREST 19-10

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The University of Dayton Flyers had a tremendous offensive outing in a 19-10 win over the Wake Forest Demon Deacons at Wake Forest Baseball Park on Sunday.

The Flyers exhibited the same offensive prowess that helped them set a multitude of hitting records last season.

Senior Zach Jacob homered two times, for a four RBI performance. Jacob is averaging one home run per game. He also had two stolen bases.

Junior Jimmy Roesinger continued his mastery at the plate. Roesinger had three RBI, one run and one double. He also had one stolen base. Sophomore Brian Blasik had three RBI and one double.

Senior Chris Beesley earned his first win of the season. Beesley pitched 3.1 innings with three strikeouts.  Senior Eric Wagner and sophomore Mike Hauschild also had three punchouts.

Freshman Ian Gardeck closed the game with two strikeouts in four batters faced.

UD pounced early scoring three runs in the first inning. Roesinger, Jacob and Aaron Dunsmore all scored in the opening frame.

Wake Forest answered back in the bottom of the third inning with three runs of its own.

Junior Zach Blanchette hit a double, scoring redshirt freshman Joe Dorocak in the top of the fourth to regain the lead. Blanchette scored later in the inning on an error by the Wake Forest shortstop while attempting to throw out Roesinger.

Jacob uncorked a solo home run to start the next inning. Dunsmore continued with a double down the left field line in the next at-bat. He scored on a wild pitch after reaching third on senior Cole Tyrell’s sacrifice bunt.

Blanchette’s double down the left field line scored pinch-hitter Jonathan Castine. Blanchette and Mitchell Nelson also scored in the inning, giving UD a 10-3 advantage through five innings.

Dayton capitalized again in the top of the seventh inning as Jacob homered once more for the Flyers. UD scored seven runs pulling them ahead of the Deacs 17-3.

Wake Forest responded to Dayton’s slugging by rattling off six runs in the bottom portion of the inning.

They added one more before Roesinger and Blasik’s base-hits to right centerfield padded the Flyers’ run total for the game.

Dayton returns to action on Friday against the Wofford Terriers at 4:00 p.m. ET. Mike Ivcic, the voice of UD baseball will bring the call live from Spartansburg, S.C.
