Kari Daugherty is averaging 6.3 ppg for the Flyers

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – University of Dayton’s Kari Daugherty was named the Atlantic 10 women’s basketball Rookie of the Week it was announced Monday, Feb. 15. It marks the second weekly honor for Daugherty, a true freshman from Fresno, Ohio.

Daugherty led a balanced Dayton attack, averaging 12.0 points per game in a 2-0 week that helped the Flyers jump to second place in the Atlantic 10 standings. She scored a team-high 16 points, including 12 in the second half, to vault UD to a 72-42 win over Fordham. After the Flyers led just 32-25 at the intermission, Daugherty went 4-for-4 on treys in a span of five minutes to push UD’s lead to 61-35 with 5:12 to play.

She scored eight in the win over UMass, which gave Dayton its 20th win of the season; making it the third consecutive in which the Flyers have posted 20-plus wins.

Daugherty shot a blistering 60 percent from three-point range (6-of-10) and was also a perfect 4-of-4 from the free throw line during the week.

The Flyers host No. 6 Xavier on Wednesday, Feb. 17 at UD Arena. Tip-off is 7 p.m. ET. The game is the UD Hoops for Haiti with all proceeds from ticket sales going to the Red Cross to support the earthquake relief efforts in Haiti. Tickets are $2 but larger donations will be graciously accepted. UD Hoops for Haiti; United in Our Faith, Global in Our Mission T-shirts will also be on sale to the public with all proceeds also going to the Red Cross.
