DAYTON, Ohio – Right-handed pitcher Mike Hauschild and shortstop Brian Blasik each signed a contract with the Houston Astros on Sunday and will report to the organization’s rookie affiliate Greeneville Astros this week.

Hauschild was drafted in the 33rd round of the MLB First Year Player Draft last Wednesday and Blasik was picked up as an undrafted free agent after becoming the first Flyer to earn three consecutive First Team Atlantic 10 All-Conference honors.

The pair of seniors helped guide Dayton to its first-ever appearance in the NCAA Regionals after winning the Atlantic 10 regular season and tournament titles in 2012.

Hauschild ended his collegiate career with 23 wins, 269 strikeouts, 10 complete games and just 87 walks allowed. His 269 career strikeouts rank second at Dayton and his 23 career wins rank third. As Dayton’s Friday starter this season the Beavercreek, Ohio native recorded the second-most single-season strikeouts in program history (92).

Blasik became UD’s first Louisville Slugger All-American in program history after being named to the third team by Collegiate Baseball. The Germantown, Ohio native has the third-highest career batting average a Dayton (.348) and the program’s single-season and career stolen bases records.

Dayton has had at least one player drafted in the last three years and feature two current major league-level pitchers – Jerry Blevins (Athletics) and Craig Stammen (Nationals).

Clayton Henning To Sign With Rays
Dayton signee Clayton Henning is expected to sign with the Tampa Bay Rays organization this evening after being drafted in the 11th round last Wednesday. The Overland Park, Kan., native was selected 362nd overall as a left-handed centerfielder out of Saint Thomas Aquinas High School. On Nov. 15, 2011 he signed a National Letter of Intent with the Flyers.
