Game One Box | Game Two Box

INDIANAPOLIS - The University of Dayton softball team (18-23) split with the IUPUI Jaguars  (14-28) on Tuesday at IUPUI Softball Stadium. Dayton beat IUPUI 2-1 in game one, and lost 10-5 in game two.

Senior Lauren Nacke was 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI against the Jaguars. Freshman Tiffany Ricks was 1-for-2 with an RBI. Freshman Natalie Mariano had two RBI.

Freshman Kayla English earned the win in game one. English (8-7) had seven strikeouts and one walk in 5.2 innings pitched. Senior Sarah Wedel pitched 4.2 combined innings of relief in the doubleheader. Wedel had three strikeouts. Sophomore Alysha Isaacson pitched 1.0 innings of relief and had one strikeout. Junior Sydney Cicchetti pitched 1.2 innings and had one strikeout.

Mariano grounded out on a sacrifice bunt in the fifth inning to score senior Courtney Kutsulis, giving UD a 1-0 lead in game one.

In the top of the sixth inning Dayton took a 2-0 lead on sophomore Kasi Vazquez’s sacrifice fly that scored junior Carlyn Harlow.

With one out in the sixth inning, the Jaguars scored on a wild pitch. Wedel came into relief and retired the next two batters to help UD over IUPUI 2-1.

In game two IUPUI struck first on a base hit up the middle in the first inning.

The Flyers answered in the top of the second with a pair of runs. Ricks singled home Nacke and then Mariano reached on a fielder’s choice scoring senior Megan Barrett.

The Jaguars took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the second inning on a two run home run.

Nacke answered back in the top of the third inning with her own two-run blast, giving UD a 4-3 lead.

IUPUI added six runs in the bottom half of the third inning to lead Dayton 9-4.

Nacke singled home redshirt freshman Jordan Jennings home hoping to spark a lead in the fifth inning, but the Jaguars held on for the 10-5 win.

Dayton returns to action on April 21 in a doubleheader against the George Washington Colonials beginning at Noon in Washington, D.C.
