DAYTON, Ohio – The University of Dayton men’s soccer team (1-11, 0-2A-10) was shutout 1-0 by the Fordham Rams (6-4-1, 2-0 A-10) on Sunday at Baujan Field.

Despite a strong attack in the second half by UD, the Rams defense and goalkeeper Ryan Meara posted their third consecutive shutout of the season. Dayton keeper Alec Storm made four stops against Fordham.

“Defensively, Fordham is a very strong team. They are very physical and are good 1 v. 1 defenders. Their goalkeeper (Ryan Meara) is good, we knew that going into today. You have to give Fordham credit they did a very good job defensively.”

Forward Evan McCreary had two shots on goal. Greg Enstone and Ryan Lyn each registered a shot on goal for UD.

After a deadlocked first half, the Flyers came out pressuring heavily, registering nine shots with three on frame. Fordham held a slight edge in shots in the second half at 10-9, after outshooting the Flyers 13-1 in the first half.

“You certainly feel like you deserved to get more out of it in the second half with the chances that we had on net,” Currier said. “We have to regroup and go at it next weekend and see if we can’t get a couple of wins and get back into it. This is a conference where you never know what is going to happen. You can’t give up now and we have to keep going at it.”

Dayton had an opportunity to take the lead on a set piece with under 23 minutes remaining in the second half. Abe Keller laced a corner kick into Enstone, who headed the ball on frame. John Howe attempted to head in the rebound, but the ball sailed over the net.

Fordham took the lead in the 70th minute after Tim Richardson crossed the ball, which deflected to Matt Courtenay who jammed in the rebound opposite post to score the game-winning goal.

The Flyer return to Baujan Field on Friday, Oct. 14 against George Washington at 7 p.m. Admission is free to all regular season games at Baujan Field.
