The University of Dayton women’s basketball team hosts George Washington this Wednesday, Jan. 19 at 7 p.m. ET at UD Arena. THE DAYTON DETAILS
The Flyers are 10-7 overall this season and 1-2 in the Atlantic 10. Junior Justine Raterman leads UD in scoring with 16.6 ppg (5th in A-10). Raterman also leads UD in rebounds per game, averaging 6.7 (12th in A-10). Junior Patrice Lalor leads the team in assists (57 - 11th A-10) and junior Casey Nance leads the Flyers in blocked shots (21 - 10th A-10).
SCOUTING GEORGE WASHINGTON
The Colonials are 5-11 overall, 0-2 in the Atlantic 10 and have lost their last seven games. Junior Tara Booker leads George Washington in scoring with 10.4 ppg. Booker’s 37 three-point field goals made are fourth in the A-10. Redshirt senior Ivy Abiona, a 6-foot-2 forward, leads GW in rebounding (6.8 rpg – 11th in A-10) and blocked shots (25 – 5th A-10). Sophomore Danni Jackson, a 5-foot-3 point guard, leads the team in assists with 65 (5th A-10).
THE SERIES
This game marks the 26th meeting between the Colonials and Flyers. GW leads the all-time series 24-1. Last season, Dayton finally broke its winless curse against the Colonials, grabbing a 59-55 victory in its Atlantic 10 opener. Justine Raterman scored a game-high 16 points for UD. Patrice Lalor contributed four assists and six points, four of which came at the free throw line when she went 4-for-4 in the final 33 seconds to seal the victory for Dayton.

LAST TIME OUT
Despite a feverous second-half comeback Dayton fell just short of defeating Duquesne in a 61-57 loss on Jan. 15 at UD Arena. Justine Raterman led all scorers with 18 points on 7-of-14 shooting while grabbing nine rebounds. The Flyers entered Saturday as the A-10 leader in scoring offense (80.6 points per game) and ranked second in field goal percentage (44.3) but were held to 20 percent shooting in the first half – the lowest percentage in a half this season.On the defensive side, Dayton forced a season-high 25 turnovers – converting 23 points on takeaways. At halftime of the game, UD will honor its alumnae, including members of the 1979-80 National Championship team. Following the game, the Flyer women’s basketball team and coaches held a free clinic for more than 200 people with special needs, in conjunction with the Montgomery County Board of Developmental Disabilities.
A NEAR UPSET IN THE MAKING
Dayton nearly upset No. 9 Xavier in both teams’ Atlantic 10 opener, but fell short in the final seconds, 63-59, in front of 2,769 fans at the Cintas Center Sunday, Jan. 9 on the ESPN2 televised game. Sophomore Kari Daugherty led UD with 19 points, tying her career high. Sophomore Sam MacKay added a career-high 12 points and tied a career-high with five assists. Junior Justine Raterman also added 12 points and a team-high seven rebounds and three steals. The 59 points was the third-lowest scoring total for the Flyers this season (the lowest was 55 in a loss to Louisville and 57 in a recent loss to Duquesne).
FLYERS RANKED IN THE A-10
Junior Justine Raterman is fifth in the Atlantic 10 in scoring with 16.6 ppg, while senior Kristin Daugherty is 12th with 13.0 ppg. Raterman is also 12th in the A-10 in rebounding with 6.7 rpg. She is one of two players to be in the Top 5 in scoring and Top 20 in rebounding in the conference. The other is Xavier’s Amber Harris. Both Raterman (2nd - .547) and Daugherty (10th - .468) are in the Top 10 in field goal percentage. Daugherty leads the A-10 in three-point field goal percentage with an astounding mark of .521. Raterman is fourth at .471. Kari Daugherty is 10th (.404). Kristin Daugherty is also third in the conference in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.8). Casey Nance is 10th in blocked shots (1.2) and Patrice Lalor is 11th in assists (3.4).
SPREADING THE WEALTH
The Flyer offense is averaging an Atlantic 10 best 79.2 ppg, which is 17th best in the nation.
SEVERAL STARTING LINEUPS
In 17 games this season UD Head Coach Jim Jabir has used eight different starting lineups, including a new look in the starting lineup of each of the Flyers’ first four games of the season. The lineup of Elle Queen, Justine Raterman, Casey Nance, Patrice Lalor and Kristin Daugherty has started the last seven games for UD and Dayton is 5-2 in those games.
REAL DEAL RATERMAN
Just a junior, Justine Raterman has already scored 1,168 career points, 15th all-time at UD. She needs 41 points to reach Jennifer Strong (2002-07) in 14th with 1,209. Her 117 three-point field goals made are seventh all-time.Teammate Kristin Daugherty is sixth all-time at UD with 123.
CASEY’S BLOCK PARTY
Casey Nance was second in the Atlantic 10 in blocked shots last year with 64. She hit a career milestone in the George Washington game on Jan. 9, 2010. With her three swats against the Colonials she reached 101 in her career. Nance is just the fourth player in UD history to notch over 100 blocks; her current 150 career blocks are second all-time, behind Michele Kruty (‘84-88) who holds the all-time record at UD with 222 career blocks.
PASSIN’ PATRICE
Patrice Lalor has 310 career assists, 11th all-time at UD. Lalor needs 12 to catch Christi Hester (1996-00) for 10th with 322. She was tied for the Atlantic 10 lead with a 1.9 assist-to-turnover ratio last season. She was second in the conference with 134 assists. Lalor is 11th in the A-10 this season with 3.4 apg.
DAUGHERTY’S DESTINY
Senior Kristin Daugherty scored the 1,000th point of her University of Dayton career as the Flyers battled to a 74-60 win over Massachusetts Feb. 13, 2010. She became the 18th Flyer women’s basketball player to reach 1,000 and just the seventh to accomplish the feat by her junior season. She now has 1,300 points, 11th all-time at UD. She needs eight points to catch Tobette Pleasant (1985-89) in 10th with 1,308 points. Her 123 three-pointers are sixth all-time. She needs 11 to move up to fifth all-time, currently held by Jennifer Strong (2002-07) with 134.
TOP OF THE COACHING CHARTS
Head Coach Jim Jabir became the all-time wins leader in UD women’s basketball program history with Dayton’s 102-69 win over Toledo on Dec. 5, 2010. His 120 wins surpassed Linda Makowski’s 119 (1980-86). Dayton pulled off a dramatic 84-81 double overtime victory against Butler on Dec. 21, 2009 that gave Jabir his 100th win at Dayton and 320th of his career. He currently has 125 wins at UD and 345 in his career.
