Dayton Flyers

DAYTON, Ohio – The University of Dayton Flyers closed out the fall season in impressive fashion winning all but one race at the Head of the Great Miami Regatta.

Dayton competed against the Ohio State and Cincinnati club programs at the Head of the Great Miami. The Flyers’ best race came at the Varsity 8 with the Flyers finishing with a time of 11:07.

“The results were good,” Head Coach Mike Wenker said. “The kids rowed well and it was a good way to end the fall season as we head into the winter.”

UD’s Varsity 8 featured Clare Hubbard, Sierra Schmitt, Kerri Kramer, Molly Chipman, Grace Doepker, Michele Baeder, Katherine Bruening , Sadie Wonders and Kristin Dormish and won by 14 seconds over Ohio State.

Dayton’s Second Varsity 8 boat consisting of Marissa Dunyak, Beth Eckstein, Ali Girten, Olivia Ullery, Erin Quinn, Lauren Bielak, Jordan Vellky, Nicole Baeder and Allison Santho had a strong showing with a time of 11:28.

In the Novice 8, Marissa Lasky, Katrina Dudley, Ali Van Loon, Chrissy Fisher, Katelyn Reynolds, Olivia Ullery, Haley Murrell, McKay Rehwinkel and coxswain Alison  Storrs cruised to a first place finish with a time of 11:49. The Flyers bested Ohio State and Cincinnati by roughly 25 seconds.

UD placed first, second and fourth in the Varsity 4. Dayton’s A boat - Katie Hocin, Clare Hubbard, Michele Baeder, Grace Doepker, and Sadie Wonders - came in with a time of 11:38, while the B boat – Kristin Dormish, Katherine Bruening, Sierra Schmitt, Erin Quinn and Mollie Chipman - crossed the line in a time of 11:54. The C boat - coxswain Christine Cirillo, Katelyn  Reynolds, McKay Rehwinkel, Haley Murrell, and Jordan Vellky finished fourth with a time of 12:40.

The Second Novice Eight of coxswain Emily Dellanina, Laura Profumo, Susie Kilmowicz, Lauren Unverferth, Liz George, Kathleen Lambert, LeighAnn Thomas, Stephanie Walton and Hannah Breidinger raced to a second place tie with UC in a time of 0:12:53.

This concludes the fall campaign for the Flyers. Dayton will begin the spring season in March.
