Zach Jacob had a solo home run on Tuesday

BOX SCORE

DAYTON, Ohio
– A four-RBI day and a new personal best from senior right fielder Aaron Dunsmore was not enough in the University of Dayton’s 7-5 loss to the Eastern Kentucky Colonels on Tuesday at Time Warner Cable Stadium.

Dunsmore racked up a pair of doubles and hit his career-best 12th home run while going 3-for-5 for the Flyers. Zach Jacob had a solo home run. He was also hit by pitch once and drew one walk.

Ian Gardeck was dealt the loss in two innings of action. Gardeck had one strikeout while allowing two earned runs. Eric Wagner pitched two innings and led the pitching staff with three strikeouts. Cameron Hobson, Trent Haughn and Matt Speckman also saw work in Tuesday’s staff pitching effort.

Dunsmore doubled in the bottom of the third inning to score Brian Blasik and Joe Gayda, giving UD a 2-0 edge.

Eastern Kentucky’s Anthony Ottrando cut into the lead in the fourth inning with a solo home run to left-center field.

Dunsmore struck again in the bottom of the fifth with a two-run blast to give the Flyers a 4-1 lead.

Eastern Kentucky pulled ahead of Dayton, scoring four runs in the top of the seventh. They tacked on a pair of insurance runs on Ottrando’s second home run of the day in the top of the ninth.

Jacob cracked a home run to left field in the bottom of the ninth, however, the Flyers were unable to rally falling to EKU 7-5.

Tuesday’s loss drops the Flyers to 20-29 this season. Dayton will play its final home games of the season this weekend at Time Warner Cable Stadium. Senior Day will be held on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. Mike Ivcic, the voice of Flyer Baseball, will broadcast live on 1660 AM and www.DaytonFlyers.com.
