Kyle Rechlicz was selected for the NCAA Women Coaches Academy in Denver, Colo. held from June 2-6.

DAYTON, Ohio - University of Dayton assistant women’s basketball coach Kyle Rechlicz has been selected to participate in the 2010 NCAA Women Coaches Academy.

The NCAA Women Coaches Academy provides skills training for coaches at all levels to assist them in being more efficient, productive, resourceful and successful. Rechlicz will complete the Core Curriculum offered in a five-day format from June 2-6 in Denver, Colo.

The curriculum covers four tracks: philosophy and fundamentals (Title IX and Gender Equity, History and Culture of Women’s Sports, Philosophies of Coaching), management skills, communication strategies and career development.

“To be selected as one of the 50 participants for this Coaches Academy is quite an honor,” said Rechlicz. “It is a very regimented schedule in which a lot of valuable information will be dispersed. The knowledge you can gain here is one of the best. I’m looking forward to this experience and applying what I learn to make our team better at the University of Dayton.”

In 2002, the NCAA Committee on Women’s Athletics (CWA) supported an initiative to train, support and retain women coaches. That was the start of the Women Coaches Academy (WCA). To date there have been 15 highly successful sessions of the five-day academies, which are open to any coach from any sport, and any division.

Flyer head softball coach Cara Clark-LaPlaca, assistant softball coach Sarah Harman and UD assistant soccer coach Tania Armellino have also completed the Core Curriculum at the WCA.

Rechlicz has been an assistant with the UD women’s basketball team for three seasons. She helped lead the Flyers to their first-ever Division I NCAA Tournament berth and victory this season. Dayton closed out the season with a 25-8 mark, tying a modern era record for wins. UD was also ranked in the Top 25 for the first time in school history this season.

Dayton graduates just one player and adds the OHSBCA Ohio Division I Player of the Year Cassie Sant of Fairmont for the 2010-11 season.
