The Flyers opened their 2010 season today at the UNI-Dome Classic with a 0-10 five-inning loss to host University of Northern Iowa.

The pitchers struggled against the Panthers, allowing 10 hits and seven walks to Dayton’s two hits and each team had a fielding error. The Flyers looked like things were picking up in the second inning.

Sophomore Brandy Brown led off the inning with a single. Senior Anne Maci reached first on an error and a sacrifice bunt by senior Megan Lee put Brown in scoring position. Two quick outs ended the Flyers chance of scoring.

Panther’s pitcher Jen Larson (1-0) gave up only two hits through a five-inning shutout. Senior Eva Rappe (0-1) took the loss for Dayton allowing six earned runs.

Junior Livi Abney hit a homerun in the bottom of the first to give the Panthers an early two-run lead. She followed that up later in the fifth with a two-out grand slam, totaling seven RBIs for the game.

Juniors Alicia Nichols and Brown led the attack each tallying one hit.

Dayton continues action tomorrow in the UNI-Dome Classic against Northern Dakota at 10 a.m. ET and UW-Green Bay at 2 p.m. ET.
