Head Coach Brian Gregory
"We did some good things early. Chris Johnson played extremely well and I thought Paul Williams played well, especially after missing a week with the mild concussion."
"We did a good job in the first half but we didn't sustain for longer periods during the second half"
"We did a good job of rebounding. Our defense was not as good as it needed to be tonight. We needed to do a better job on defense tonight."
"I was pleased with some of our stretches today. I thought Mickey played pretty well and the challenge for him was the amount of minutes he had to play due to Chris Wright and Marcus Johnson not playing tonight. Give him credit because we asked a lot out of him tonight."
"Kurt Huelsman played extremely well. I suspect when we watch video that most of the baskets that their team put up were not on Kurt."
"We played well in stretches but obviously it is not where we need to be. We just need to keep getting better and pushing forward. Some guys have to play better and we will get everyone back."
"Chris Johnson has increased his skill level quite a bit. He is really setting himself apart by becoming a better rebounder. He relentlessly pursues the ball on offense. On defense he needs to go after balls with the same amount of intensity."
"The turnovers today were due a little bit to being impatient. You can still be fast and play patiently and with poise."
"I thought Dan Fox played extremely well. He had key deflections and deflections are a byproduct of good positioning. Dan had four deflections over the course of a four minute period. That is the way we need to play all the time, from the best player to the 12th man because it is the way we need to play defense."
Mickey Perry
"You have to give a lot of credit out there to Ferris State. They made some plays out there and adjusted to what we were doing out there. They were jumping into the passing lanes and making some deflections out there. They did a good job of that, but I was glad we stayed focused and pulled it out at the end."
"With BG and the coaching staff having me focus on preparation before the shot, it helped build the confidence to let it go. It felt good out there and hopefully it can continue."
"I think the ball-handling is feeling good. I get challenged everyday with London (Warren) and Josh (Parker). They are really competitive practices and those guys push me every day to get better."
London Warren
"It was good to go out there and compete against a different team. We still have a lot to work on and compete against a different team. We came out with a lot of energy and give Ferris State credit. They played us tough and they are a good team."
"It was a good stepping stone for us to see what we need to work on. We showed glimpses of the potential of being the great team we are striving to be. We're not there. It was the first exhibition game. We have to learn from this and get better."
"They were running through a lot of passing lanes. We just have to slow down, get smarter and get the jitters out. It was the first game. We'll be good."
Josh Benson
"I struggled to get to sleep yesterday. I was really amped up. I had some nerves and I talked to my dad and grandma and they told me to play my game and told me I was a blessed child with a good future ahead of me."
"It was an adrenaline rush. It got me going. At first I was still a little nervous, but after those two dunks, that got me back going. Those two dunks reminded me to play my game. Two years. It's been a long time, but a great experience to be back with my team. I'm just ready for the upcoming season."
