Dayton Flyers

MUNCIE, Ind. - Although it was only the second tournament of the season for the University of Dayton Flyers, the number nine was prime at their latest event.

Senior Paige Smith finished tied for ninth helping the Flyers finish in ninth at the 2009 Ball State Cardinal Classic.

After shooting a 74 in round one, Smith stayed consistent and fired a 75 in round two. The rounds of 74 and 75 were a career-best for Smith.

As a team UD shot a 311 in round two, a one stroke improvement from a day before. The rounds of 312 and 311 were the best two-day total in five season for the Flyers.

"Even though we placed in ninth, we had a lot of players with great showings," head coach Sally Kosters said. "It was a very competitive tournament. I am proud that against this tough field, we were competitive."

Junior Julie Pouliquen shot an 80 in round two and finished in a tie for 31st. Classmate Megan Keating enjoyed a strong round with a 78 in round two and finished in the Top 50.

Also breaking the 80 mark was sophomore Clara Ang who bounced back from an 82 in round one to shoot a 79 in the second. Senior Cari DeAngelis also enjoyed a solid improvement shooting a 79 in round two as well.

Up next for the Flyers is the University of Akron Zippy Invitational. The event will be held from Oct. 5-6 at the Rosemont Country Club in Fairlawn, Ohio.
