DAYTON – The University of Dayton baseball team defeated Ohio State 6-0 at Day Air Ballpark on Tuesday night. The Flyers set the program record in the win with 3,859 in attendance. Graduate student
Kenny Serwa struck out 11 in seven scoreless innings in the victory.

The Flyers improve to 13-15 this season in a game that also helped raise awareness for epilepsy in conjunction with the Epilepsy Foundation. Ohio State falls to 11-18 with the loss.

Jose Martinez each homered for Dayton, who broke a 0-0 scoreless tie after the top of the fifth with six runs in the next four innings offensively. Senior
Jay Curtis also picked up two RBIs and junior
Ben Jones went 2-for-4 in the win.

Serwa opened the first Day Air game of the season and dominated for his seven scoreless innings. His 11 strikeouts tied the most of any Dayton Flyer this season. The graduate student allowed just four hits and one walk in his first quality start of the season.

Andrew Zapka relieved Serwa to start the eighth, going the next inning with a pair of strikeouts. Zapka allowed one hit before giving way to graduate student
Nick Meyer. Meyer finished the game for the Flyers, pitching a scoreless ninth without allowing a baserunner.

Calero made the first hit of the game for the Flyers count with a solo home run over the left field wall to give Dayton a 1-0 lead.

Ben Jones led off the sixth with a base hit through the left side. Senior
Marcos Pujols was hit by the next pitch to put two on, and a wild pitch advanced both runners into scoring position. Curtis brought both runners home with a base hit to right field, extending the Dayton lead to 3-0.
