ALBANY, N.Y. - Despite a phenomenal first half shooting performance, the University of Dayton women's basketball team was not able to overcome number-one ranked Connecticut in the final of the 2015 NCAA Albany Regional. The Flyers fell, 91-70, to the Huskies. Five Flyers scored in double-figures for Dayton, who held a one-point lead at the half - the first time Connecticut had given up a halftime lead in an NCAA Tournament game.
Senior
Ally Malott scored a team-high 14 points for UD, including a 4-for-6 night from behind the arc. Senior
Andrea Hoover knocked down 13 points, dished out four assists and swatted two steals while sophomore
Saicha Grant-Allen added 12 points. Junior
Kelley Austria chipped in 11 points and dished five assists and freshman
Jenna Burdette scored 10 points. Hoover and Malott were both named to the Albany All-Region Team for their play over the past two games.
Dayton shot 51.4 percent from the floor in first half to take the 44-43 lead into the locker room. the first time Connecticut trailed at the break since 2012-13. The 44 first-half UD points were also the most by any UConn opponent since DePaul scored 47 on March 1, 2008.
In the end, UConn was able to regroup and recover in the second half, breaking open the game with a 10-0 to pull ahead, 74-57, just over halfway through the second period. The Flyers would get no closer than to within 15 the rest of the way and the Huskies moved on to the NCAA Final Four with the 91-70 win.
The Huskies were led by Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis with 27 points, including her seven made three-points baskets that set a new NCAA career record for made threes. Breanna Stewart posted the game's only double-double with 23 points and 16 rebounds.
