Dayton Flyers

Dayton, OH- The University of Dayton men’s tennis team kicks off the 2010-2011 season with the second annual Michigan State Frank Beeman Invitational taking place Friday-Sunday, September 10-12.  Along with Michigan State, the compass-draw, non-elimination invitational will include participants from Chicago State, Detroit, Duquesne, IPFW, Toledo, Western Michigan, and Youngstown State. Matches will begin at 2:30 on Friday on the MSU Outdoor Tennis Courts

Hoping to get some experience are five new freshmen who have been added to this year’s roster. Coach Eric Mahone, who is entering his second season as the Flyer’s head coach, is “excited to see what the new freshmen class is capable of”. 

The freshmen, consisting of Alex Crum, Andrew Hanley, Benton Benalcazar, Sam Pecyna, and Sean Bandy, are all expected to see playing time.  Sophomore Robert Salcedo is also hoping for positive results this weekend, as he will be playing the number one position for the Flyers.

“This year is going to be all about growing for us,” Coach Mahone said. “We just have to wait and see how everything plays out.”

Next weekend the Flyers will travel to West Lafayette, IN to take part in the Purdue Invitational.
