MATCH BOX SCORE | TOURNAMENT BRACKETS
The University of Richmond knocked off the University of Dayton 4-0 in the first round of the Atlantic 10 Men’s Tennis Championship Friday at the Club 4 Life in Monroeville, Pa. near Pittsburgh. Richmond took two of three doubles matches to win the doubles point, and then won the first three singles matches that were completed to take the match.
The 4-0 score did not demonstrate how close the individual matches were. The #3 Flyer doubles team of Austin Weigand and Robbie McCalum won their match against Rafael Arana and Sebastien Fauchet 8-5. UD’s second doubles team of Matt Sherman and Robert Salcedo was edged 9-8 (5), giving the Spiders their first point. The #1 singles match between Sherman and Fauchet went three sets, and four of the the other five singles matches had a tiebreaker set.
Dayton will finish the season Saturday with a consolation bracket match against Fordham at 8:00 a.m. ET.
