PHILADELPHIA
– The University of Dayton men’s soccer team (4-11, 3-2 A-10) won its third consecutive match, beating the Saint Joseph’s Hawks (1-11-0, 0-4-0 A-10 ) 3-0 on Friday. The win puts the Flyers in a tie for second place in the Atlantic 10.

“It was good to get the result tonight,” Dayton Head Coach Dennis Currier said. “We did great on our counter breaks, and we started the match off with a good goal from Duru. In the second half we were able to find the second and third goals quickly, which opened the game for us.”

Dayton sophomore Victor Duru scored the game-winning goal in the 13th minute, lacing a ball into the upper 90 from freshman Ryan Lyn and junior Evan McCreary.

The Flyers outshot the Hawks 16-14 in the match. UD also held a significant advantage in corner kicks with a 6-2 difference.

“We talked about how critical the first goal would be for the game,” Currier said.  “We were under pressure and scored on the counter. Evan (McCreary) played a great ball to (Ryan) Lyn who kept the combo going to Duru. His goal took the pressure off of us and took us into halftime 1-0.”

Sophomore Abe Keller tallied the second goal on freshman Greg Enstone’s pass into the middle of the box, which Keller tapped into the net in the 47th minute.

McCreary scored the third goal for UD after Keller set him up for a diving header in the 69th minute.

Sophomore goalkeeper Alec Storm posted his third shutout of the season. Storm made four saves en route to his second shutout in the last three matches.

“Everyone put in the extra work when it was needed. We did a fantastic job of pressuring the ball tonight,” Currier said. “Hopefully, we can continue to pressure against Temple on Sunday.”

Dayton squares off against Temple (7-6, 3-1 A-10 ) on Sunday at 1 p.m. in Ambler, Pa.
