DAYTON'S SEAN KEATING WINS THE 2012 BUTLER SPRING INVITATIONAL

This is Sean Keating's first career collegiate individual championship. He won the Butler Spring Invitational by one stroke.
AVON, Ind. - University of Dayton junior Sean Keating captured the individual championship at the 2012 Butler University Spring Invitational by one stroke.

Keating, who shot a career-best 66 in round one, fired a 76 in the second round to capture the title. His 142 total was one stroke better than Detroit's Lukas Kim.

This is Keating's first career collegiate individual championship and Dayton's first since Chris Woeste won the University of Kentucky Bluegrass Invitational last spring.

It's been a magical junior season for Keating. The Cincinnati native qualified for the 2011 U.S. Amateur Championship after placing in a tie for first in the Cincinnati qualifier. He became just the fifth UD men's golfer in the program's history to qualify for the U.S. Amateur Championship joining former Flyers Jeff Hodapp, Rob Chappell, Zach Glassman and Jack Zimmerman Sr.

As a team, Dayton placed in second with a total score of 598. The Flyers finished three strokes behind IUPUI for the team championship.

Senior Michael Oberschmidt shot a second round 77 and to tie for 10th among individuals. Freshman George Rhode III was next up for Dayton finishing in a tie for 20th after recording an 81 in round two.

Dayton's best second round score came from junior Matt Buse, who fired a 75. Buse tied for 38th among individuals. Junior Mike Griffin closed the scoring with an 86 in round two.

Up next for Dayton men's golf is the NYX Hoosier Invitational from April 7-8 in Bloomington, Ind.
