FLYER MEN'S GOLF OPENS THE 2011 SPRING SEASON AT NORTH GEORGIA

Coach Gip Hoagland will bring the entire team South for a meet against North Georgia and Clayton State.
The Dayton Flyers will begin the 2011 spring season as UD travels to compete in the North Georgia Spring Invitational on March 4.

Coach Gip Hoagland will bring the entire team South for a meet against North Georgia and Clayton State. This is the second season in a row Dayton opens the spring campaign at North Georgia.

Last year at the dual meet against North Georgia, sophomore Matt Buse led the way for Dayton after carding a one-under 71 in round two and placed third among individuals.

The Flyers were picked to finish in sixth in the 2011 Atlantic 10 preseason poll. Last season at the Atlantic 10 Men's Golf Championship the Flyers finished in fourth.

This spring season UD will be led by sophomores Brenten Blakeman and Sean Keating, junior Michael Oberschmidt and seniors Chris Woeste and Jeff Hodapp.

Blakeman led the team in the fall with a 74.8 stroke average, while Keating earned an A-10 All-Rookie Team selection last season. Oberschmidt had a solid fall as well averaging 75.6 strokes per round during the fall campaign.

Woeste is a two-year team captain who earned the 2008 Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year and was a First Team All-Atlantic 10 selection. Hodapp meanwhile is a 2009 qualifier of the U.S. Amateur Championship.

The dual meet will take place at the Reynolds Plantation Course in Greensboro, Ga. The Bob Cupp-designed Plantation Course has garnered several coveted spots among the nation's top rankings from "Ten Best New Courses" by GOLF Magazine to Zagat's 2007 America's Top Golf Courses.
