ROBERT KEPLER INTERCOLLEGIATE UP NEXT FOR FLYER MEN'S GOLF

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Still looking to finalize its lineup before the upcoming conference championship, the Dayton Flyers head to the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate hosted by The Ohio State University.

The two-day, 54-hole tournament will take place on Saturday, April 23 and Sunday, April 24 from the Scarlet Course in Columbus, Ohio.

Flyer head coach Gip Hogaland is still looking to firm up his final five golfers for the upcoming Atlantic 10 Men’s Golf Championship.

Dayton is coming off a lackluster 12th place finish at the Earl Yestingsmeier Invitational a week ago. UD’s Chris Woeste was the only Flyer to place among the Top 20 individuals at that tournament.

Woeste has been Dayton’s top golfer this season winning the UK Bluegrass Invitational, earning the A-10 Golfer of the Week award twice and leading the team in stroke average at 75.2 and rounds played with 21.

Three other Flyers, Sean Keating, Brenten Blakeman and Michael Oberschmidt, have also played in all 21 rounds this season. Coincidentally, those three golfers are also Dayton’s next best golfers in stroke average.

Blakeman averages 75.7 strokes per round and has shot in the 70s during every round this season but one. Oberschmidt is next with a 76.0 stroke average and Keating is close behind at 77.5.

During the 2011 spring campaign, Dayton’s team stroke average is 304.33, slightly higher than the 301.41 mark posted in the fall.

The Ohio State University Scarlet Golf Course is rated one of the best collegiate facilities in the country by Golf Digest. It reopened in the spring of 2006 after undergoing a major renovation by golf great Jack Nicklaus.

The par-71 golf course measures 7,455 yards from the championship tees. The course was originally constructed in 1938 by famed architect Dr. Alister McKenzie on 295 acres of wooded, rolling terrain and contains a 9 1/2-acre lake and stream that creates challenging play on several holes.

This is the final tournament of the spring campaign before Dayton competes in the 2011 Atlantic 10 Men’s Golf Championship.
