After winning their first team tournament championship in three years, the Atlantic 10 awarded Dayton Flyer golfers Zach Glassman and Michael Oberschmidt with the Player and Rookie of the Week awards.

Glassman won the individual medalist award as the Flyers captured the tournament championship at the 2008 Leo Keenan Invitational. Glassman won the tournament after shooting back-to-back rounds of 71 for his first career individual championship as well.

Meanwhile, Oberschmidt capitalized on his first round 76 with a 79 in round two to tie for 32nd overall and help UD finish with a team score of 593, edging out Temple by one stroke.

First-year head coach Chris Hale believes a renewed focus on a winning attitude has fostered the success on the course.

"We are no longer settling for middle of the pack finishes," Hale said. "We are starting to take the right steps to winning and this is a big step in the right direction."

Glassman had to win a seven-hole playoff against teammate Rob Chappell, the 2008 Atlantic 10 Player of the Year. Glassman, who qualified for the 2008 U.S. Amateur Championship, is second on the team in stroke average at 74.4, tied for first in total rounds with 11 and tied for second for best individual round at 71.

The Flyers had to rally after Temple collected a 10-shot lead on Dayton after day one. A tournament low 66 fired by Chappell, along with another superior 71 by Glassman, helped motivate the other Flyers to strong finishes as well.

The Flyers defeated Atlantic 10 schools Temple, St. Bonaventure, Duquesne and La Salle to also earn the first championship for Hale.

It's the first Atlantic 10 award for Oberschmidt who ranks seventh on the Flyers in stroke average. Meanwhile, this is Glassman's fourth A-10 weekly award and the second time in his career he received player of the week honors.

Dayton looks to continue its success at the F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate in UD's fall season finale. The tournament will take place on Oct. 20 and 21 from Hopkinsville, Ky.

"We are looking forward to Austin Peay because we believe we have a shot at winning that tournament as well," Hale said. "The guys are believing in themselves and looking forward to the future."
