South Bend, IN - The University of Dayton men's cross country team finished third amongst 33 teams at the National Catholic Invitational at the University of Notre Dame on Friday afternoon. The women's cross country squad also competed, taking sixth place at the meet.

For the men, junior Mike Andersen crossed the line in a school-record time of 24:36 to capture first place overall. Freshman Chris Lemon was just behind Andersen, taking fourth place with a time of 24:59. With that finish, Lemon now holds the freshman 8K record previously held by Anderson.

It was the first time in program history for UD to have two runners finish in a time under 25:00.

Rounding out the scoring for the men's squad, freshman Matt Lemon finished 11th overall in a time of 25:32. Junior Matthew Peters came in at 15th for the Flyers with a 25:45 finish and senior Billy Przybyla notched a 41st place finish in 26:34

The UD women finished also fared well at the meet, finishing sixth out of 37 teams, with another rookie leading the way. Freshman Maureen Bulgrin recorded a time of 18:24 to finish first for the Flyers and 13th overall. Another freshman, Brigitte Sherman, came in second for Dayton and 28th overall with a time of 19:03.

A third freshman, Liz Coorey, scored a third-place (40) finish in a time of 19:17. Two juniors, Anne Oltman and Sydney Hubbard finished off the scoring for the Flyers. Oltman was 43rd overall with a time of 19:19, while Hubbard came across the line in 19:34 to take 58th place.

Homestanding Notre Dame University took home the championships in both the men's and women's meets.

The UD cross country teams will return to action September 29 at the Greater Louisville Classic in Louisville, Kentucky. The race is scheduled for a 10:00 AM start.
