MEN'S AND WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY WIN MEL BRODT INVITE

DAYTON, Ohio - The University of Dayton men's and women's cross country teams faired well Saturday afternoon at the Mel Brodt Invitational hosted by Bowling Green University as both teams took first place honors and placed the top three overall finishers in the Division I race.

The men's team finished first out of four placing the top three finishers overall for the second consecutive week. Chris Lemon led the pack finishing first overall in a program record time of 24:08, which was also a new junior record. Mike Andersen followed in second place setting UD's senior record (24:24). Placing third, Matt Lemon clocked in at 24:28.

Redshirt freshman Greg Roeth placed eighth overall with a personal best 25:23. Freshman Jeremy Schiele ran 25:33, good for ninth overall. The average time for UD's top five runners was 24:47, which marked the first time in history that UD's top five runners finished under 25 minutes.

Rounding out the top seven runners for the UD men was Matthew Peters (11th overall, 25:46) and Kyle Lowry (14th overall, 25:50).

Ryan Shirley (25:52), Stephen Mackell (26:01), Cory McGoldrick (26:07) and Derek Henderson (27:01) all ran personal bests.

Dayton's women's team also won the meet coming in first out of five with 19 points. The team ran perfectly in the DI portion of the race placing runners 1-5.

Maureen Bulgrin was first across the line for the Flyers running the course in 17:57. Liz Coorey finished second (17:59) and was followed by Elissa Mason (18:12) who was third.

In sixth place overall was Brigitte Sherman at 18:41. Emily Zimmerman (10th overall, 18:46) and Marisa Slomski (25th, 19:18) rounded out the top seven for UD.

The Flyers return to action on Saturday, Sept. 26. Dayton's women's team will head to the Ohio Invitational, while the men's team will participate in the Roy Griak Invite. Results for both meets can be found on www.DaytonFlyers.com.
