Biography: Dyshawn Pierre made quite an impression in his freshman campaign at UD. His best performance came in the Canadian’s first ever start against Boston College in the Charleston Classic.
His performance against Boston College could not have been more perfect. Literally. Pierre shot a perfect 8-of-8 from the field, including 5-of-5 from beyond the arc and 2-of-2 from the foul line. He finished with 23 points, two rebounds, three assists and a block while committing zero turnovers in 35 minutes of action.
It was a game that Pierre and the rest of the Flyer community will remember for a long time as Pierre is just the sixth NCAA basketball player (and the first freshman, and the first Canadian) since 1996-97 to make at least eight FG, five 3-pt FG and two free throws without missing a single shot. Pierre is also the only player to have such a perfect game in his first career start (he came off the bench in Dayton's first two games).
Pierre has a smooth all-around game of being able to shoot from the outside, finish at the rim and the athleticism to dunk the ball and sky for rebounds. Pierre finished second on the team and 10th in the Atlantic 10 in field goal percentage as he connected at a .536 clip. He started 28 of the team’s 31 games and scored 8.8 points and grabbed 5.1 rebounds per game.
Pierre is one of three returning starters for the 2013-14 season and will be looked upon to play even better in his sophomore season.
2012-13
Dyshawn Pierre had one of the better freshman campaigns in recent memory for the University of Dayton during the 2012-13 season. Pierre started in 28 of the team’s 31 games while averaging 8.8 points and 5.1 rebounds per game. He shot an outstanding .536 (96-of-179) from the field and .462 (24-of-52) from beyond the three-point line. Pierre’s .536 field goal percentage is the fourth best by a Flyer freshman in school history and is the only one in the top six who was not a power forward or center. Furthermore, his .462 three-point percentage is the best mark ever by a freshman at UD.
For the season, Pierre played a total of 845 minutes (27.3 mpg), scored 273 points, grabbed 104 rebounds and dished out 63 assists. His mark of 157 rebounds in a single season is the ninth best in school history for a freshman (teammate Jalen Robinson is eighth with 159 rebounds).
Dyshawn Pierre was presented the Thomas M. Luppe Award, which is presented to the first-year player on the team who best demonstrates the courage, desire and integrity of former Flyer freshman Tom Luppe.
