Height: 6' 9"
Weight: 243 lbs
Hometown: Columbus, OH
High School: Northland
Year: Freshman

Biography:

Jalen Robinson’s freshman campaign in 2012-13 showed that he is capable of becoming a major contributor for the Flyers in the upcoming three years. Robinson showed that he has tremendously quick feet in the post that allows him to spin by defenders to score, and he showed that he can knock down a mid-range jumper.

Robinson also had one of the better rebounding seasons for a freshman in UD history. He grabbed a total of 159 rebounds during the 2012-13 season. That ranks as the eighth best mark in school history by a freshman (teammate Dyshawn Pierre ranks ninth with 157 rebounds). Robinson was also very efficient on the offensive glass. He was second on the team with 65 offensive rebounds, which is fourth in UD history for a freshman in a single season. He snagged at least five rebounds in 18 of the team’s 31 games during the 2012-13 season.

Robinson’s best game may have been where he scored only five points. However, the 6’9” Columbus native was able to grab a career-high 14 rebounds against Florida Atlantic in just 20 minutes of play. Six of those 14 rebounds were offensive rebounds, and the 14 rebounds were tied for the most by a Flyer in a single game during the 2012-13 season (Devin Oliver also had 14 rebounds vs. Florida Atlantic).

The Flyers are hoping that Robinson will improve his game to become one of the top post threats in the Atlantic 10 during the 2013-14 season.

2012-13
Jalen Robinson played in all 31 games, which include four starts, during the 2012-13 season. He played a total of 580 minutes (18.7 mpg) while scoring 188 points (6.1 ppg) and grabbing 159 rebounds (5.1 rpg), which includes 65 offensive rebounds. Also, Robinson shot .507 (75-of-148) from the field and had 21 steals.

Robinson scored a career-high 15 points on 7-of-10 shooting and hauled in six rebounds against Boston College in the Charleston Classic. In the next game of the Charleston Classic vs. Auburn, Robinson tallied 12 points on 6-of-10 shooting and snagged seven rebounds.

He netted eight points on 4-of-5 shooting against Miami and hauled in five rebounds. Against Florida Atlantic, Robinson grabbed a career-high 14 rebounds and tallied five points.

In the game against Murray State, Robinson scored eight points and tallied seven rebounds. He nearly had a double-double against Fordham, as he scored nine points and hauled in nine rebounds.

Robinson was knocking on the door for another double-double as he finished with 10 points and nine rebounds vs. Duquesne. He scored seven points on 3-of-4 shooting and hauled in nine rebounds at Rhode Island.

At UMass, Robinson tallied 10 points on 5-of-9 shooting and had four rebounds and two steals. In the match-up vs. Richmond, Robinson scored nine points on 4-of-6 shooting and snagged seven rebounds.

High School
Jalen Robinson became the first recruit in the class of 2012 for UD head coach Archie Miller when Robinson committed in June of 2011. The 6-foot-9 forward is a product of Ohio powerhouse Columbus Northland High School and was considered a top-five player in the state of Ohio for the 2012 class. Robinson was named Ohio’s Division I co-player of the year by the Associated Press his senior year. He was also Division I First Team All-State, district player of the year and a finalist for Ohio Mr. Basketball. Robinson averaged 19.1 points and 11 rebounds while leading Northland to a 22-2 record his senior year. That team also boasted fellow Flyer recruit, Devon Scott. Following his senior season, Robinson played in the Ohio North-South All-Star game where he had 30 points and 10 rebounds in a 116-114 win in the Division I-II game at Capital University.

As a junior, Robinson helped Northland to a runner-up finish in the Division I state playoffs while averaging 12.7 points, 9.7 rebounds, and 3.2 blocks per game. Northland’s record over the last four years was 98-6, with two appearances in the Ohio Division I state finals. As a sophomore coming off the bench he averaged 5.7 points and 3.2 rebounds backing up one of the best players in the country, Jared Sullinger. The Vikings won the state championship in 2009.

Robinson was also a member of the 17U All-Ohio Red team that won the 2011 AAU national championship.
