Head Coach Brian Gregory
"You want to take a step forward every game. I liked the way we practiced the last three days. We are getting better defensively and at times we were really good defensively. We held them to five offensive rebounds on 28 misses. We forced 14 turnovers against Northern Kentucky tonight."
"Before Marcus tweaked his back earlier this fall, he was playing some of the best basketball of anyone on the team. A couple of his shots, I thought were going in. He took 12 very high quality shots and did a good job defensively. If we can get him the type of shots he had tonight, then he will have a great year. I was pleased with the way he played tonight."
"We are much better when we defend with energy. We don't gamble a lot, we just play hard. They challenged London Warren a bit and he responded well generating a nice run. Our defense ramped it up. Give Northern Kentucky credit because they handled it pretty well."
"Give [Northern Kentucky head coach] Dave Bezold credit. They share the ball and have a legitimate low-post scorer. I thought our guys did a good job forcing David Palmer to take tough shots. We are getting there, we're not quite good enough yet to do the things we want to do. We have to get better and we have to play better on Saturday than we did tonight."
"We played a very good team. Those transfers are quality players and play well together. They share the ball well and never got out of their game plan. They are going to have a really good year. We did a better job taking care of the ball, only allowing six turnovers."
"Every team is different and every team has a different chemistry and identity. With Chris Wright and Marcus back in the mix, it is going to help things a lot."
"The point guard position for us was pretty good. We had 15 points, 11 assists and only one turnover from that point guard spot. "
"Creighton has 11 straight years of 20-plus wins. I don't think people realize just how good that program is. I have seen them on film and they are good. We are going to have to play extremely well to be successful."
"It felt really good to be back playing with my teammates. We did some great things out there tonight."
"We're never comfortable. There's always room for improvement. With these next couple days we are going to get ready for Creighton. They are a good team coming into our building and we are going to be ready for them."
"I think us guys we are ready for them. We have to prepare well and get ready for Saturday."
"I was happy to be back out there with my team, my brothers and we were just having fun out there. For me it was my first exhibition and we had a good, solid week of practice. It was nice to get out there."
"It was fun and that's part of our game, that's what we do. We feel the energy, get the crowd going and get the team going, especially after a dunk like that, we have to lock up on D."
"That's a good team, a top tier team. They are ready to come in here because they show they are ready to work. We have to get ready for work tomorrow with a free mind after two exhibitions behind us. We have to grow from the two exhibition games and get ready for them because they will be ready for us."
"We're doing good. We got better tonight. We were playing against a good team in NKU and a lot of guys took steps forward today and got better."
"It feels good to be out there with my teammates, making plays and getting them open shots. It felt good to have everybody out there and have Marcus (Johnson) and Chris (Wright) back out there. It felt good."
"We are excited. Creighton is a great program. It's two great teams going at it on Saturday at 1 from UD Arena."
