"I thought we used 20 minutes very wisely today in terms of our development and then we wasted the final 20, so I'm disappointed in that and we have to do a better job of that. Our guys understand that, but there's a difference between understanding that and changing that."
About Chris Wright
"He's a tremendous player that plays with tremendous energy. He used that last 20 minutes to get better and to build on what he did in the first 20 minutes. He got in foul trouble, so he only played nine minutes in the first half. You can see him developing as a player with the things he is working on and the effort he puts in. The one thing is he is a warrior and he keeps fighting. He's going to make some mistakes, but I can live with that. At times at practice he understands it's a struggle because he has to continue to develop and do some different things. He's a very coachable kid. I've said that since day one and he's a very humble kid and those guys are fun to work with."
About the use of his bench
"I was disappointed that we didn't give more guys an opportunity to play because of what the score was and we didn't take advantage of that and we're going to need those guys. Those guys have to play better and perform better for us to continue to develop as a team."
On the team's development
"I kind of stated it that I'm not happy with those last 20 minutes. You never get those 20 minutes back to develop this team. Those 20 minutes are gone, that's it. You only have 40 minutes of time and we didn't take full advantage of that. When you have a team that has a baseline that is pretty good and can get better, you have to take advantage of that every day. Today we didn't use everything that was given to us. Now, we won the game. That's a lot better feeling than if we lost. So some people would say `we'll they were a pretty good team in the first half and did just enough to win.' That's not good enough. That shouldn't be good enough for Brian Roberts and Jimmy Binnie, Andres Sandoval and Charles Little who are the upper classmen on this team."
About Charles Little
"He's worked hard. He deserves to have a good year because of the time and effort he put during the spring and summer. He just didn't shoot the ball well in the first two games. He missed some shots he should have made. We need him to make those. The one thing with Charles, and I tell him this every day, is he got his 20 tonight, but where are those 13 rebounds too that he got us when he wasn't making those baskets. He's good enough to do that and do both of those. We have to get that from him."
About SMU on Saturday
"We have a Conference USA team coming in coached by Matt Doherty, one of the best coaches in the country. He's been successful every where he's been at. It's a great game to have them coming in during the holiday weekend. Our guys shouldn't need much motivation since they beat our butt down there last year. A game that our guys thought they could have won and they didn't. We have them coming to our place and it that league and style of play, they have a couple of inside guys who can play and are really good. Their perimeter players are back from last year, but they are young and he's made a commitment to play the younger guys. It'll be important for us to play the 20 minutes we saw today go for 40 minutes on Saturday."
Charles Little
"We played a good first half. In the second half we lost our focus just a little bit. Coaches have talked about finishing and today we didn't do that."
"We emphasized it during halftime that we needed to keep our focus. We had it good for the first four minutes, but the rest of the 16, we couldn't maintain it. We got the big lead and we kind of relaxed."
Chris Wright
"That was one of the things we talked about at halftime was finishing teams off. It's hard to do that because you know they are going to come out hard. We were up by 16 at one point and they cut it down to four, so we just have to dig in down the stretch and come up with the win."
"I just try to go out there and play every day. I scored 26, but I have to be consistent at playing my game. I just want to get out there and do what I do best which is run the floor and rebound. If I continue to score, I continue to score, but I'm just worried about this team getting the win. That's more important than if I'm scoring."
Brian Roberts
"We just have to execute like we've been doing. We can't do anything different. That got us the lead. We just have to tighten up and execute."
"Whenever we have a big lead, it's always geared to keep them down when we have them down. We talk about it at practice. We know they will fight back and we have to keep pushing."
"I can't get out of doing things that are not a part of our offense or going off and shooting bad shots because that will give them the lead even quicker. We just have to maintain our poise and be composed."
