With the high school basketball season in full swing, it's a good time to take a look at the Dayton Flyers' incoming men's basketball recruits.
Scout.com, a recruiting service, regards UD's class as the best in the Atlantic 10. The Flyers incoming class includes high school seniors 6-8 forward Chris Wright, 6-9 forward/center Devin Searcy, and 6-1 guard Stephen Thomas.
Scout.com's ranking does not include Wisconsin transfer 6-2 guard Mickey Perry.
Here's the latest updates on the four new Flyers.
Chris Wright
Last Look: Named to the five-man all-tournament team at the fifth annual Flyin' to the Hoop national invitational basketball tournament. The 6-foot-8 senior, who is headed for the University of Dayton, had 21 points, including four rim-rattling dunks as Trotwood (10-1) pushed No. 1-ranked (21-0) Oak Hill (Va.) Academy before losing, 81-74. Tallied 29 points, 14 rebounds and three assists in a win over Dunbar on Saturday.
Basics: 6-foot-8 forward from Trotwood-Madison H.S. averaged 17.5 points per game and 10.1 rebounds per game in 2005-06.
Fast Fact: Named by Scout.com as the top recruit in the Atlantic 10.
Brian Gregory's Comments: "The thing that makes him special is he knows how talented he is, and he knows the impact he can make on a college program, but he's not at all satisfied with where he is as a player. He's the most humble kid I've ever seen - and that's a rare combination these days. As good as he is as a player; he'll be an even better ambassador for the entire University of Dayton."

Stephen Thomas
Last Look: Fractured a bone in his left wrist, but the senior point guard still helped his high school team to its second consecutive Indianapolis city tourney title two weeks ago. Thomas had surgery to have a pin inserted and hopes to be back in time for the sectional tourney in early March.
Prior to the injury, Thomas's high school team is averaging more than 77 points a game and nearly a 20-point margin of victory. Individually, Thomas leads his team averaging 22 points per game this season.
Basics: 6-foot-1 point guard from Indianapolis Cathedral H.S. averaged 15.5 points and 5.0 assists per game in 2005-06.
Fast Fact: Ninth-rated prospect in Indiana who was named city player of the year as a junior.
Brian Gregory Comments: "I really like Stephen. Sometimes you use the word 'solid' and people don't get excited about that. But if solid brings you the ability to handle any type of pressure, the ability to make shots and defend and make game-winning plays, that's pretty good. Every time I watched him, I liked him more."

Devin Searcy
Last Look: Scored 24 points against Saginaw Arthur Hill, one of the top teams in Detroit. Returning to form after battling a high-ankle sprain earlier in the year.
Basics: 6-foot-9 center from Romulus (Mich.) H.S. averaged 12.5 points and 8.5 rebounds per game in 2005-06.
Fast Fact: Needs to bulk up for college game, but has 7-foot wingspan and 37-inch vertical jump.

Brian Gregory Comments: "With any big kid like that, one of the greatest challenges at the next level is strength. But at 210 or 215, he's about at the weight (UD freshman) Kurt Huelsman was then. Will he, through maturation and continuing to lift, gain 10 or 15 pounds before he gets here? Yeah, I think so. But he's able to compensate for that because of his overall athletic ability and length. He's got that innate timing around the basket both offensively and defensively."

Mickey Perry
Last Look: Perry transferred to the Flyers from Wisconsin and enrolled at UD in January. Perry began practicing with the team and will become eligible to play following the fall 2007 semester.
Basics: 6-foot-2 guard from Proviso East H.S. averaged 20.0 points, 7.1 assists and 5.0 rebounds per game as a senior in 2004-05. Red-shirt at Wisconsin in 2005-06.
Fast Fact: Named an Associated Press Third Team All-Illinois in 2005. Proviso East High's basketball products include NBA players Michael Finley, Dee Brown, Shannon Brown and Steven Hunter.
Brian Gregory Comments: "We're very excited that Mickey is joining the Flyers," UD head coach Brian Gregory said. "In addition to his very good basketball skills, he has competed at the highest levels of basketball every step of the way. He played for a great high school program, a tremendous AAU program, and he comes to us from one of the most successful college basketball teams in the country. I think he is a perfect fit for us."
