DAYTON - The University of Dayton Men's Basketball program announced its non-conference schedule to date and Atlantic 10 opponents for the 2011-12 season.
Dayton’s non-conference opponents include teams from the ACC, BIG EAST, Big Ten, Colonial, MAC, Pac-12, and SEC. The Flyers will play 11 games against teams that were in the postseason in 2010-11.
The 2011-12 non-conference schedule features nine home contests at UD Arena. The Flyers will play three home non-conference games on Saturday, three on Wednesday, two on Friday and one on Sunday.
The first game in coach Archie Miller’s University of Dayton coaching career will be on Saturday, Nov. 12 when the Flyers host Western Illinois.
UD will participate in the Old Spice Classic in Orlando over Thanksgiving weekend. Joining the Flyers in the three-game, four-day event will be Arizona State, DePaul, Fairfield, Indiana State, Minnesota, Texas Tech and Wake Forest. It is the fourth straight exempt tournament the Flyers have played in.
The month of December will be exciting as three teams from BCS conferences will visit UD Arena, highlighted by the return to the arena by former Flyer co-captain and MVP Anthony Grant’s Alabama Crimson Tide on Dec. 7. Seton Hall will play on Tom Blackburn Court on Dec. 21, and Ole Miss will close out the Dayton non-conference schedule on Dec. 30.
This will be the first time since the 1972-73 season that two Southeastern Conference schools (Alabama and Ole Miss) will play the Flyers in Dayton.
Dayton is looking to add one game on the road for the 2011-12 season.
The 16-game Atlantic 10 Conference schedule follows in January, February and March.
The Flyers will play home-and-home Atlantic 10 games with Duquesne, Saint Louis and Xavier. In addition, Dayton will play host to Charlotte, George Washington, La Salle, Massachusetts and Rhode Island. On the road, UD will play Fordham, Richmond, St. Bonaventure, Saint Joseph's and Temple in conference play.
UD will have two exhibition home games in early November before beginning the regular season. One of them is already scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 6 against Findlay.
Dayton's complete schedule, including the Atlantic 10 Conference schedule, game times and the pairings for the Old Spice Classic, will be announced at a later date.
